Today, we stand with our brothers and sisters of Lacey Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2903 as they mourn the loss of Firefighter Jake Johnson. On behalf of IAFF Local 828, we send our heartfelt condolences to Jake’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters. May you find strength in one another in the days ahead. Rest easy, Brother

With deep sadness, Lacey Firefighters IAFF Local 2903 shares the news of our brother Jake Johnson’s passing.

Jake joined Local 2903 as a lateral firefighter after serving with Mountain View Firefighters Local 3186. He quickly became a trusted teammate, a friend, and an important part of our family.

We are deeply grateful for the support shown to Jake, his family, and our members. The prayers, messages, and acts of kindness have meant more than we can express.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Olympia Firefighters Local 468, Tumwater Firefighters Local 2409, and the medical teams at Providence St. Peter Hospital and Harborview Medical Center for their care and compassion.

Our hearts remain with Jake’s family, friends, and all who are grieving his loss. We ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

Memorial service details will be shared when available.

Jake, you will always be remembered as our brother, teammate, and friend. Your Local 2903 family will carry your memory with us.

Investing in Emergency Services for Our Community

The Longview Fire Department responds to more than 6,000 emergency incidents each year, and over 80% of those calls are emergency medical incidents. While the community’s needs have grown significantly over the past two decades, staffing levels and resources have remained largely unchanged.
Proposition 1 will help ensure Longview firefighters and medics have the personnel, equipment, and facilities needed to continue providing reliable emergency services today and into the future.

Why Additional Funding Is Needed
● Emergency call volumes continue to increase.
● EMS calls now make up the majority of our workload.
● Aging equipment and apparatus need replacement.
● Future growth requires improved emergency coverage and response capacity.

Investments Included
✓ Additional firefighter and medic staffing
✓ A fourth response unit to improve emergency coverage
✓ Construction of Station #83
✓ Replacement of aging apparatus and equipment
✓ Fire and EMS prevention programs
✓ Long-term equipment replacement planning

On behalf of IAFF Local 828, we extend our condolences to everyone affected by this week’s tragic incident at Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company.

Our hearts go out to the workers, families, coworkers, responders, dispatchers, law enforcement and hospital staff impacted by this tragedy. We especially recognize the strength and professionalism shown during such a difficult time.

Please know that IAFF Local 828 stands with our AWPPW family and all those affected. Our thoughts are with the injured, their families, and everyone working through the aftermath.

This Memorial Day, we remember those who gave everything in service to our nation. We honor their sacrifice and stand grateful for the freedoms they defended. Never forgotten.

Our members showed up in a big way this weekend at the Blood Cancer United Firefighter Stair Climb in Seattle.

Eight members of IAFF Local 828 took on the Columbia Center climb, raising an incredible $43,424.72 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support the fight against blood cancers.

A special recognition goes to Local 828 Team Captain Mike Mann, who finished as the #2 individual fundraiser overall, bringing in an amazing $37,270 for the cause.

We’re incredibly proud of the dedication our members continue to show—both on the job and in our communities.
