What a phenomenal and packed meeting today as we honored our 2026 Citizen of the Year, Shirley Griffin!

The room was absolutely overflowing with love and support from Shirley’s family, friends, and fellow Rotarians. We were incredibly honored to have so many special guests in attendance to share in this moment, including several past Citizens of the Year, many Past District Governors, and our current District Governor, Damon Donnell.

Emceed by Jon Cromer, the program featured touching remarks and stories from speakers Betty Horaney, Jack Welge, Damon Donnell, and James Roberts.

We celebrated Shirley's remarkable Rotary journey, from serving as our Club President (2006-2007) and District Governor (2011-2012) to her passionate, award-winning advocacy for global polio eradication.

A very special thank you to David Berryhill for setting a wonderful tone as our piano accompanist.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate a woman whose lifetime of dedication to our community and the world truly embodies "Service Above Self."

Congratulations, Shirley!

Celebrating Our Citizen of the Year & A Look Back!

First, a huge congratulations to the incredible Shirley Griffin! The first photo in this post captures the special moment she found out she was selected as our Citizen of the Year. We cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor for her lifetime of service to our community.

Please join us this coming week as we officially celebrate Shirley:

When: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: Pinecrest Country Club
Cost: Lunch is $20

RSVP: Please email Kellyn Drayer at [email protected] to save your seat!

Swipe through to see some fantastic photos from a recent meeting featuring Taylor Deike, daughter of legendary Rotarian Terri Deike! Taylor is the Manager of Rules and Competitions for the LPGA's Epson Tour. She shared her fascinating journey, from starting at a local public golf course when her Texas A&M softball job ended during the COVID-19 pandemic, to now traveling the country organizing approximately 20 tournaments a year for 132 women. Her enthusiasm for the game and her work is truly inspiring!

You'll also spot a few photos of our wonderful attendees, as well as our incoming President David Stanley, and board member Mark Cormier addressing the club.

We can't wait to see you all on Tuesday as we celebrate Shirley!

What a great day at Rotary! Our featured speaker was Dr. Mike Scott, who shared the phenomenal impact of Beds of Hope. Dr. Scott practiced orthodontics here in Longview for over 38 years before retiring in June 2023, but his dedication to serving our community hasn't slowed down.

After participating in a bed build in Whitehouse, Texas, he and his good friend Willie Faulkner were inspired to start Beds of Hope in March of 2016. Since then, they have delivered over 2,500 beds to children in need!

We also had the privilege of recognizing some outstanding individuals from Longview ISD for their hard work and dedication:

April Teacher of the Month: Maria Aranda

April Student of the Month: Ari Collins

May Student of the Month: Lily Danielson

A special congratulations to John Albertson, the City of Longview's Parks and Recreation Director, who was officially inducted into our club today.

Welcome to Rotary, John! We are thrilled to have you and are excited to serve our community alongside you!

Join us next Tuesday, May 5th from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM as we honor our Citizen of the Year: Shirley Griffin

What an incredible day of hometown pride! Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming back Longview native and star quarterback Haynes King for a special homecoming program.

From leading the Longview Lobos to a perfect 16-0 state championship in 2018 to his recent accolades as the 2025 ACC Player of the Year and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award winner, Haynes continues to make our community proud.

We were honored to have County Judge Bill Stoudt, Mayor Kristen Ishihara, and the office of State Rep Jay Dean each present special honors to Haynes.

The Lobo Band, under the direction of Rhonda Daniel, provided special music before the program.

Haynes King is now our latest Paul Harris Award recipient, presented by PDG Carroll Greenwaldt and President Robert Maly.

Past President Jon Cromer led an engaging discussion with Haynes, covering everything from his time at Georgia Tech to his roots right here in Longview.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this packed house! It’s days like today that remind us why we love our community.

What an exceptional Annual State of the County program we had this week!

We extend a huge thank you to Judge Bill Stoudt for sharing his valuable insights and updates on Gregg County's progress and future.

A special shout-out to our own past president, Jon Cromer, for conducting a fantastic and informative interview.

It was an honor to host so many of our dedicated city and county public servants in the audience.

And finally, thank you to the incredibly talented Mr. Berry Hill for setting the perfect tone with his beautiful piano music!
