Many people may wonder why they don’t see our rescue out and about as much as we used to be. We were at PetSmart in Longview every weekend, we did special events 3-4 times a year. We did event fundraisers at places such as Roadhouse and Los Pinos Vinyard. We love doing events like that! But here’s the reason why we aren’t as visible anymore. We are volunteers. We all have jobs. We have families and friends we love to spend our time with. As much as we also love to help these precious 4-legged babies, this can’t be a detriment to our families.
For the last 3 years we have had the same few volunteers who are shouldering most of our rescue responsibilities. This means it takes us time to make decisions on adoptions, respond to requests from owner surrenders, help catch a stray or pull a dog from a shelter. All while be stretched thin, we are still inundated with requests from the public to do more. More are being euthanized, but we can’t help because we don’t have enough fosters to take them in. More are being dumped in the country, but we say no WAY more than yes because we have husbands who don’t want to have 10 fosters. We have homes that are too small to house that many or we have schedules and responsibilities that won’t allow for the time to care for that many. We have teens that are growing so fast and will soon be out of the house. We will wonder how it went by so fast and realize we were too busy for them because we felt the pull to make a difference.
I could go on, but the truth is, if this rescue is to continue in the Longview community, we need more help. We need fosters. We need people who want to step up and join the board and help make decisions for these pets. We need fresh ideas. We need people who have skills beyond what we can do. We are drowning right now and are asking for more help. We can’t do what the founders set out to do if people don’t step up to help carry this torch. Message us and ask how to get involved. I promise we will have a place for you!
