Vern Rennier, CEO and hospital administrator from Oceans Longview, was speaker today at the Pilot Club meeting. He is an Army veteran who served in Iraq and received two Purple Hearts for his service. After suffering from PTSD and a traumatic brain injury himself, he decided to devote his career to help those suffering from mental health thrive by maintaining good health in all the other areas of their lives. Oceans have therapists to help spouses and families of veterans to cope with their mental health challenges. They also have a wonderful outpatient clinic for all ages to educate and promote better mental health care in our community.

We were pleased to have him speak on these issues.

Please join the Pilot Club of Longview Brain Injury Support Group this Tuesday, January 13th at 6 pm at First Lutheran Church for our monthly meeting. Paige Woodfin will be the program speaker with a slide presentation on “Adaptive Technology to Help You Thrive after Brain Injury.” Light refreshments provided.

This past weekend, traumatic brain injury survivors were excited to participate in Circle of Friends, a camp just for them! Circle of Friends is just one of the camps for TBI survivors, the signature project of Texas Pilots. The other two are Higher Ground and Mountain High, each providing opportunities for fun and friendship for those with traumatic brain injuries. Kelly Morrison, Mary Stuart and Julia Yost from Pilot Club of Longview drove up to Lake Bob Sandlin to lend a hand.
