September is Su***de Prevention Month.

When we talk about su***de prevention, we also need to talk about domestic violence.

Living with abuse can profoundly affect a personโ€™s sense of safety, identity, hope, and control. Research shows a strong connection between intimate partner violence (IPV) and suicidal thoughts and attempts. A 2026 meta-analysis found that survivors of intimate partner violence had 3โ€“5 times higher odds of suicidal thoughts and attempts than those who had not experienced IPV.

And the connection goes both ways.

๐Ÿ”น 26% of women who died by su***de in one national study had a known history of domestic violence.
๐Ÿ”น Men account for about 80% of su***de deaths in the United States.
๐Ÿ”น Men are also survivors. About 1 in 4 men report experiencing violence from an intimate partner.
๐Ÿ”น Research has also found that intimate partner violence circumstances are present in a significant number of su***de deaths, with many IPV-related su***des involving men.

Abuse can make someone feel like there is no way out.

But there is a way forward.

Safety planning. Advocacy. Connection. Community. Support.

If someone you know is experiencing abuse, believe them. Listen without judgment. Help them connect with resources. And if you are concerned someone may be at risk of su***de, take it seriously and help them connect with immediate support.

Su***de prevention is domestic violence prevention.
Domestic violence prevention is su***de prevention.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or thinking about su***de, call or text 988. If you are experiencing domestic violence, you can also reach out to a local advocate for confidential support and safety planning.

There is help. There is hope. There is a way forward.

Thank You, Longview Pioneer Lions! ๐Ÿงก

We are incredibly grateful to the Longview Pioneer Lions for their generous $2,500 donation toward the replacement of our desperately needed HVAC system!

We are also deeply thankful to an anonymous club donor for an additional $2,500 gift toward this critical project. Together, these generous gifts bring us another $5,000 closer to replacing a system that is essential to keeping our shelter safe, comfortable, and welcoming for the women and children we serve.

Our HVAC system gravely needs to be replaced, and we are reaching out to our incredible community for help. If you, your business, organization, or someone you know would like to become a sponsor for this project, please reach out to us! Every contribution helps keep our shelter a safe place for survivors and their children.

We absolutely LOVE our community partners and are so grateful for all you do for ESS and for the betterment of our community. Your generosity makes a real difference. ๐Ÿ’œ

It's been a slow start to our Annual Campaign, and we could use your help.

If you have a moment, please take a look at our campaign and consider sharing it with your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. Every share helps us reach someone new who may be looking for a way to make a difference.

The Emergency Support Shelter's programs are made possible through grants and the generous support of our community. Funding from caring individuals, businesses, and community partners allows us to continue providing safe shelter, advocacy, and life-changing services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes.

Community support isn't just appreciated. It's essential to our mission.

Thank you for standing with survivors and for helping us spread the word. Together, we can continue opening doors to hope, healing, and safety for those who need it most.

Every day, someone in our community reaches out for safety, hope, and a fresh start. Because of the incredible generosity of people like you, ESS is able to be there when they need us most.

Our Annual Campaign is currently underway, and we invite you to join us in making a difference. As a nonprofit organization, much of our work is made possible through the generous support of community members who believe that every person deserves to live free from violence and fear.

Whether you've donated, volunteered, shared our mission, or encouraged someone to seek help, you are part of the hope we provide every day. We are deeply grateful for this community and the unwavering support you've shown ESS throughout the years.

If you'd like to be part of this year's Annual Campaign, every gift, no matter the size, helps provide safety, advocacy, shelter, and healing for survivors and their families.

Can't make a financial gift right now? You can still make a huge impact by sharing this post. Every share helps our message reach more people, expands awareness of the services ESS provides, and increases the likelihood that we'll reach our Annual Campaign goal. You never know who in your network may be inspired to give or who may learn that help is available because you clicked "share."

Together, we are building a safer, stronger community. Thank you for believing in our mission, supporting survivors, and helping us spread hope throughout our community. โค๏ธ
