June is PTSD Awareness Month.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. For many survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes, the effects of trauma do not end when the abuse or violence stops.
PTSD can impact daily life in many ways, including anxiety, depression, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, hypervigilance, and challenges with trust and relationships. Healing takes time, support, and access to safe spaces.
At Emergency Support Shelter, we work alongside survivors every day as they navigate the lasting impacts of trauma. Through advocacy, shelter, crisis support, and community resources, we are committed to helping survivors find safety, hope, and healing.
This PTSD Awareness Month, we encourage our community to learn more about trauma, support survivors, and help break the stigma surrounding mental health.
You are not alone. Help is available.
