Clinton Young Foundation

The Clinton Young Foundation supports wrongfully convicted and disproportionately sentenced individuals in Texas, through advocacy, legal representation and education. The foundation got its name from Clinton Young, a former death-sentenced individual in Texas who has been convicted and sentenced to death for two capital murders that we believe he did not commit.

NEW MESSAGE FROM CLINTON ๐Ÿ“

Greetings, now that I am out of seg, life presents various new obstacles. Overall, everything is much better. Thankfully, the person I share a cell with is clean, sensible, and lives a sober life. I am grateful that the TDCJ officials have not forced me to wait the amount of time they initially planned on before letting me out of seg. There is a couple guys that I recently met, that are on a similar path of self growth. I am excited about the potential of positive creations that can help others incarcerated.

My case is still slowly moving along. Thank you to all who continue to support justice.

I shall return soon,
take care and smile,
Love, Clinton โš–๏ธ

The Stateโ€™s View of โ€œDanger to Societyโ€

The Texas Attorney Generalโ€™s Office prosecuted former attorney Adam Hoffman for continuous s**ual assault of a child over a period of more than 3 years. According to reports, the State offered a plea agreement involving 30 days in jail. The judge ultimately rejected that recommendation and sentenced him to 60 days.

This is the SAME Attorney Generalโ€™s Office that aggressively retried Clinton Young for capital murder after his conviction was overturned for prosecutorial misconduct โ€” despite Clint having spent years out on bond successfully reintegrating into society, working, reconnecting with family, and staying out of trouble.

Two very different cases. Two very different approaches to punishment, risk assessment, and rehabilitation.

People can draw their own conclusions about which individual presents the greater risk of committing future crimes while free.

Hoffman pleaded guilty April 16 to indecent assault and displaying harmful materials to a minor, both Class A misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail.

Finally! After spending a year and a half in solitary confinement, Clinton was finally released from his 8 by 12 foot cell and can now spend most of his days around other inmates.

Clinton is glad to be able to go outside, work out, and talk to and motivate others to live right and become successful in life after release. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

It will be a couple more months before he is allowed contact visits with his son. ๐Ÿงธ

Thank you all for your support! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to share that our client, Thurman, will be released early this year. โœจโš–๏ธ

When we took on this case, Thurman had been sentenced to 35 years for a DUI offense (driving under the influence) and an additional 10 years for evading arrest (he fled on foot; thankfully, no one was injured). It goes without saying that those were serious mistakes. But we also believed the punishment was not entirely proportionate in relation to the crime (in the Netherlands, you usually get a fine for a DUI).

At his hearing, we presented evidence of who Thurman is today, not just who he was at one of the lowest points in his life. In the years since, he has taken meaningful steps to address his substance abuse, grow, and take accountability.

His struggles were rooted in a deeply difficult period following a tragic loss, and he has worked hard to turn his life around.

Thurman also had something truly special behind him: support letters from six correctional officers (!) supporting his release and highlighting his work ethic, character, and the effort he has consistently put in during his time inside. That kind of support says a lot.

The Parole Board agreed that change matters.

We donโ€™t have an exact release date yet, but Thurman is expected to come home this year and thatโ€™s something worth recognizing. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Thank you all for your support this year! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ It makes a difference!

*Thurman served 8.5 years on the DUI and 3 years on the evading arrest

Expansion of Team! โš–๏ธ๐Ÿงกโญ๏ธ

We are so excited to announce that Grace Moreland has recently joined our team as a full-time Staff Attorney. She began work for the Foundation as an intern in 2023 and worked with Merel for two summers before graduating The University of Texas School of Law in 2025 and passing the Texas Bar Exam. Grace is able to work with us through a fellowship from UT Law โš–๏ธ

Her commitment to our cause is incredibly strong and we canโ€™t wait to see what she can accomplish with the Foundation. Welcome, Grace! โœจ

Bobby Granted Early Release After 11 Years in Solitary๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผโš–๏ธ

Our client Bobby will soon be released after spending 11 years in prison, all of it in solitary confinement.

Bobby was sentenced to a total of 32 years for various offenses, including evading arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, but after a recent hearing where we presented evidence of his growth and rehabilitation, a decision was made within 24 hours to grant his early release. โš–๏ธ

We think that kind of response speaks volumes. It shows that the Parole Board saw what we saw: that Bobby is a genuinely changed man.

We donโ€™t want to minimize the offenses Bobby was convicted of, but people are more than the worst thing theyโ€™ve ever done, especially after years (in isolation) of reflection, accountability, and personal growth. โœจ

And hereโ€™s the great thing: Bobby has a loving support network, his parentsโ€™ home waiting for him, a job lined up, and a real opportunity to rebuild his life. So he wonโ€™t need any further help from us once released and we have no doubt that he will succeed in life moving forward. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

This is exactly why we do what we do: because sentences in Texas are often disproportionate, and because people are capable of real, meaningful change.

More updates and info soon as we prepare for his release in 2 months. ๐Ÿ™

NEW MESSAGE FROM CLINTON ๐Ÿ“จ๐Ÿ“

Iโ€™ve always cherished my ability to express myself. My voice and perseverance towards self-determination is paramount to my identity. My believe is that others be given the same consideration.

Gary, who just won the privilege of parole after 40 years, had little to no contact with free world people. His existence has been prison through and through. The hardest way to do time, more so in the era such as the 80s and 90s prison system.

With so much of life taken from him, it is important that he controls his name and introduction to the world. He is a man first, a prisoner last. He deserves that courtesy.

I am the one who upon meeting him, introduced him to the foundation. Then after seeing the flaws in his conviction and the injustice of his incarceration. 40 years alone in prison! How much has society changed in 10 years. Imagine since 1986 to 2026โ€ฆ

He will be more active and present going forward, but let us give him the dignity and justice he deserves. That he be able to do it at his pace.

It was a blessing that the foundation was able to dedicate the time, energy and compassion needed to be able to make this possible for him.

With love,
Clinton

โ—๏ธBREAKING NEWS โ—๏ธ

Going Home After FORTY YEARS. For a burglary.

In 1986, Gary was convicted of burglary and sentenced to LIFE.

Now, in 2026, he has spent 40 years in prison.

Forty birthdays. ๐Ÿ’”
Forty Christmases. ๐Ÿ’”
Four decades of his life. ๐Ÿ’”

Our team at the Clinton Young Foundation has been working behind the scenes on Garyโ€™s case for over a year โ€” digging through records, preparing mitigation, advocating for relief, and pushing for a second look at a sentence that simply does not fit the crime.

Several weeks ago, we had a hearing where we argued why Gary should be released early.

And we are grateful to share: that request was just granted! โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Gary is now 64 years old.

This is not the end of his case. He has not yet been found innocent, and we will continue fighting to clear his name. But this is a major step toward bringing him home after four decades.

None of this happens without your support. Your donations, your shares, your belief in second chances: it all matters.

In the coming days, weโ€™ll share updates about Garyโ€™s release and ways you can help him transition home โ€” including an Amazon Wishlist to help him rebuild after 40 years behind bars.

Thank you for standing with us. This is what hope looks like. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

UPDATE CLINTON โš–๏ธ

This weekend, Clinton was transferred from Coffield Unit to Ellis Unit.

Since arriving, he has been without a mattress.
Without a blanket.
Without proper clothing.
Without even a functioning light in his cell.

Let that sink in.

No mattress to sleep on.
No blanket for warmth.
No basic clothing.
Sitting in a dark cell.

These are not privileges. They are minimum standards and every inmate is supposed to have them upon arrival at a new unit.

Clinton has been incarcerated for decades at this point. He understands prison life. But being left without the most basic necessities is not โ€œnormal.โ€ It is not acceptable. And it should concern all of us.

We are actively working to address this, but we want people to be aware of what is happening behind prison walls โ€” because conditions like this usually thrive in silence.

We will continue to advocate. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ We will continue to speak up. And we will not normalize inhumane treatment.

Please keep Clinton in your thoughts and send him an uplifting message in the comments! โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿงก

This morning, Danique hit the streets of Austin and absolutely crushed the Half Marathon ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

With a blazing average pace of 07:07 per mile, she powered through the 20K in 1:33:07 and kept pushing strong all the way! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Her grit, discipline, and heart were on full display โ€” and we could not be prouder.

Danique raised $1,500 for the Clinton Young Foundation while training and preparing for this race. Every mile she ran today was also for the people we fight for every single day.

Because of her effort, more families will receive support. More cases will move forward. More hope will be carried. โš–๏ธ

We are leaving the GoFundMe open through today for anyone who still wants to contribute and celebrate her incredible accomplishment. โค๏ธ
