Thirsty Minds Design and Media is a non profit organization that assists at risk kids, in particular minority males, by educating them in the computer game development industry. Our goal is to meet the Texas Film Commission’s goal in building up the Film and Video game industry in Texas. Our hope is to get these kids to either come together to form a tea

m and create a great project to get industry credit if they decide to pursue a scholarship for college or to work for a game development company. Help us make some seemingly unattainable dreams be achievable for these kids and not idol in the streets.

Showcase your game, get live audience votes, and if you make the top two, present on the main stage for a chance at a monetary prize! This is just one part of something much bigger—a STEAM Education, Esports, and Anime Expo coming to East Texas this August.

More than just gaming—this is a massive Expo blending STEAM education, Esports, Anime, and Indie Development (think Comicon meets GDC). We’re creating a platform for Military Veterans, youth, first responders, indie game devs, anime studios, and tech innovators to connect, showcase talent, and open career opportunities.

Celebrating the Legacy of Jerry Lawson, Inventor of the Video Game Cartridge

This hashtag , let's celebrate a true pioneer of the gaming industry: Gerald "Jerry" Lawson. While many recognize the iconic video game cartridge, few know the name of the brilliant engineer behind it. Lawson, an African American, revolutionized gaming as we know it.
Before Lawson's innovation, game consoles were limited to the games built directly into them. Imagine a world without the ability to swap games – no Super Mario Bros., no Sonic the Hedgehog, no endless possibilities! Jerry Lawson changed all that.
In the early 1970s, Lawson was working at Fairchild Semiconductor. He led the team that developed the Fairchild Channel F, the first home video game console to use interchangeable ROM cartridges. This groundbreaking invention allowed gamers to purchase and play a variety of games on a single system, opening up a world of possibilities for game developers and players alike. Think of it: he essentially created the foundation for the entire cartridge-based console industry that followed, from the Atari 2600 to the Nintendo 64.
Lawson's vision extended beyond just the hardware. He understood the importance of accessible game development and laid the groundwork for the creative explosion that followed. His work paved the way for the diverse range of games and gaming experiences we enjoy today.
