Cowlitz Beekeepers assessed the Honeybees at the Pole, and agreed to leave them 🐝. It would too difficult to extract them from the metal tube they are in.
So, since they aren’t damaging the wood, we will let them 🐝 where they are. 🐝 free!

Huge thanks to Interstate Pest Control and Cowlitz Beekeepers! Interstate assessed the totem pole on their own time and passed the honeybees off to Cowlitz Beekeepers.
Thank you Sherwin Williams in town! They have taken us on as a civic project and are donating restoration/paint supplies.
Thank you JHKelly for taking us on as a civic project! Lowering the pole went flawlessly 🐝👀.
This is truly a community effort. ❤️

The pole is down on Lions Island and in one piece! Thank you so much JHKelly! Moss and Carpenter ants are prevalent.
Restoration assessment is forthcoming

Totem pole is NOT coming down today at Lake Sacajawea. The pole is in rough shape and needs more assessment.

Come witness the lowering of the totem pole on Lions Island @ Lake Sacajawea tomorrow around noon.
Longview Pioneer Lions will be restoring the totem pole over the next few weeks.
The City has assured us there are no tribal ties.
Lions Island will be fenced off during this process.
A huge Thank You to JHKelly, Sherwin Williams Paint, Interstate Pest Mgmt and Cowlitz Beekeepers for making this restoration possible.
