For every one child raised by relatives in foster care, roughly 19 children are raised by kin outside the foster care system. This means they don’t have access to monthly stipends, free resources, a community of partners, counseling, support groups, and more. Our Buckner foster care staff and a foster family attended the Fostering Collective Banquet featuring a concert by Shane & Shane, recognizing the efforts of Heart Gallery. The Fostering Collective exists to recruit and shepherd Christ-centered families in East Texas to help children in foster care.

Kinship care allows children to be placed with relatives after being removed from the home. Kinship care is always the first choice because it is proven that kids have better success rates when they are with people they know. Kinship care also allows foster parents to receive financial help, resources, community, and more so that they can care for the children. So often families walk this road alone.
