I know at this moment everyone is scared and worried, here is a gentle reminder to Love one Another, as Christians that is what we are called to do:
A Devotional for Times of Fear and Outbreak
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” —Ephesians 4:32
When an outbreak like EHV-1 strikes, it doesn’t only affect barns and show schedules—
it affects hearts.
Fear rises. Rumors spread faster than facts.
People point fingers.
And in the middle of the panic, our Christian calling can get buried beneath anxiety.
But moments like these are exactly where the light of Christ is meant to shine.
1. Panic Is Contagious—but So Is Grace
In uncertain times, our first instinct is often self-protection.
Yet Scripture repeatedly invites us to something higher:
“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” —Philippians 4:5
Your gentleness is not a small thing.
It can calm a frantic group chat.
It can soften a harsh comment.
It can remind someone who is scared that they’re not alone.
Grace spreads, too—if we choose to offer it.
2. Shame Is Not a Tool of God
When fear takes hold, people may look for someone to blame:
a stable that didn’t know
a rider who traveled
a friend who made a different decision
But shame never produces healing.
Christ never used humiliation to correct His people.
He used truth, yes—but truth delivered with love, patience, and mercy.
If someone made a mistake, they are already carrying enough weight.
Our job is not to add more burden but to help them stand again.
3. Love Shows Up Most Powerfully in Crisis
Outbreaks test communities.
But they also reveal where love lives.
Love is:
checking in on others with sincerity
sharing information, not accusations
praying for every barn involved—not just your own
speaking peace when conversations turn harsh
remembering that behind every horse is a human doing their best
Jesus said the world would know us by our love—not our perfection, not our opinions, not our certainty in chaotic times.
4. Anxiety Can Be Given to God
You don’t have to pretend you’re not worried.
Concern for our animals is real and valid.
But Scripture gives us a place to bring that worry:
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” —1 Peter 5:7
When fear tightens your chest, breathe this truth:
God cares.
God sees.
God is present in every barn aisle, every closed gate, every decision weighed in worry.
5. Choose to Be a Shelter
Every outbreak eventually passes.
But how we treat one another during it leaves a lasting mark.
Today, choose to be a shelter:
a soft place for others to land
a voice of compassion in a loud, critical world
a living reminder that Christ’s peace can dwell even in uncertainty
May your words bring healing.
May your presence bring calm.
May your kindness be a testimony louder than fear.
