It’s almost butterfly time, and this month, the Northeast Texas Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will learn how to create habitat for our beautiful state insect, the monarch butterfly. Our speaker will be Carol Clark, who is a Monarch Watch conservation specialist and also the Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas project coordinator for NPSOT. Carol will present “Monarch Waystations for Texas,” which will teach us how to create monarch habitat in our landscapes. Our meeting starts at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Longview Arboretum & Nature Center, 706 W. Cotton, Longview. Come early and visit with your native plant friends! Blessings! – Belinda McLaughlin, president, Northeast Texas Chapter, Native Plant Society of Texas

What's the Northeast Texas Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas been up to lately? Spreading the good word about Texas native plants! Chapter members set up a table at Saturday's Gregg County Master Gardeners Spring Gardening Seminar. The Master Gardeners always put on a GREAT seminar, and we love getting an opportunity to meet local gardeners and tell them about how wonderful it is to grow our beloved native plants.

Monarchs need milkweed! By planting milkweeds and nectar plants, you can help maintain the monarch migration and sustain insects whose pollination services maintain our ecosystems.

Sharing this for those who attended the native plant swap Sunday afternoon and wondered about the possibility of the horseherb groundcover I was sharing. Imagine how pretty this is when the tiny yellow daisies are in bloom! Belinda McLaughlin

We had a GREAT time this afternoon at the NPSOT Regional Plant & Seed Swap for the Northeast Texas, Tyler and Lakes & Pines chapters. We all came home with native plants or seeds for native plants that we didn't already have, and LOTS of growing advice got shared. It's so much fun to hang out with enthusiastic people who love our Texas native plants. Members, mark your calendars for the last Sunday in October 2026 and plan to join us at our next swap. Blessings! Belinda McLaughlin
