Last January, Dr. Brian Juan sat down and wrote three words on a piece of paper.

Creativity. Relationship. Health and wellness.

He was nine years into a corporate family medicine job in Colorado. He was the tech lead. He had won teaching awards. He served as the clinical liaison for the largest longitudinal integrated medical school curriculum in the country. He was also telling his therapist that he no longer had the energy to play music, and every year he was more tired than the last.

The three words on the paper did not match the job.

He and his wife hired a financial planner and set up a savings buckets system. He called Dr. Luke Pittman after listening to his podcast episode and got a pro forma the same night. He applied for a small business loan. He got it. On June 1, at 50, he opened Metronome Family Medicine in Longmont, a solo DPC focused on midlife vitality with 90-minute new patient intakes, an InBody scanner, and a piano in the office.

The system was built around other people's songs. He wanted to write his own.

He joined us this week to talk about opening a DPC at 50, the savings buckets that finally made it possible, and the Wednesday hikes with his wife that keep it sustainable.

We asked Steve Hultquist with Infinite Summit:

“What’s one sign that a business owner or leader needs to make a change, even if things aren’t necessarily going wrong?”
His answer started with this:

“You should feel successful. But you don’t.”

From the outside, everything may appear to be working. You’ve worked hard. You’ve accomplished many of the things that were supposed to make life feel successful.
But somehow, the pieces don’t make a whole.
Steve says that disconnect can be a sign that you’ve built around what other people value, what success is supposed to look like, or who you thought you needed to become.

“Your life has many of the expected pieces—but somehow, it is missing you.”

When you begin to understand yourself more clearly, Steve says decisions can become clearer too and the energy you were using to hold everything together becomes available for actually living and leading.

🚚 Wait…you CAN’T put that on the moving truck?

If you're preparing for a move—especially a long-distance one—there are a few things you don't want to discover on moving day.
We asked Dustin Holliday with Morganize It Moving what can't go on the truck. His list includes:

🚫 Paint
🚫 Propane
🚫 Am******on
🚫 Flammable materials
🚫 Pressurized tanks
🚫 Live animals (yes, your pets are riding with you! 🐾)

Dustin's advice: figure out what can't be transported before moving day and make a plan for those items ahead of time.
It's one less surprise when the truck arrives and moving day already has enough surprises!

🚚 Helpful Moving Hint for Long Distance Moving from Dustin Holliday with Morganize It Moving.

There’s one BIG difference between moving across town and moving across the country:

You can't just say, “I'll come back for that later.”

Dustin Holliday with Morganize It Moving says one of the biggest things people underestimate about a long-distance move is that the entire house needs to be packed and ready for travel at once, including all those lamps, pictures and odds and ends you'd normally toss in your car.

His favorite tip? Create a DO NOT PACK zone on your bed or kitchen island.

Keep everything there that needs to travel with you:
🧳 Medications & toiletries
📱 Phones & chargers
📑 Passports and important documents
💍 Valuables
👕 A few days of clothes
🐶 Kids' and pets' essentials

Then make sure everyone helping with the move knows: nothing in this spot goes on the truck!

🚚 Meet Dustin Holliday!

Summer is one of the busiest times of year for moving. Families are getting settled before school starts, people are relocating for new jobs, and sometimes life simply says, “It’s time for a change.”
This week, we’re introducing Dustin Holliday with Morganize It Moving, one of the local professionals in our BNI Money Makers community.

Moving across town is one thing. Moving across the state—or across the country—is a whole different adventure.

A long-distance move comes with a lot more to think about: What should you take? What should you get rid of? How far ahead should you start packing? What needs to travel with you instead of on the moving truck? And how do you make sure everything arrives safely at the other end?

🌧️ Helpful Hint: What should you look for after all this rain?

After the heavy rain and flooding we’ve experienced recently, standing water isn’t the only thing homeowners should be watching for.

Some signs of water intrusion or hidden moisture include:
💧 Musty or damp odors
💧 Water stains or discoloration
💧 Bubbling or peeling paint
💧 Swollen baseboards
💧 Warped flooring or damp carpet
💧 Drywall that feels soft
💧 Moisture around basement windows or window wells

It’s also worth checking those easy-to-forget places—closets, corners, behind furniture along exterior walls, and unfinished areas of the basement.

And if you actually find water? Safety comes first. If water is near electrical outlets, appliances, your electrical panel, or anything that could be energized, don’t enter the water or try to unplug things yourself.

Once it’s safe, try to identify and stop the source if possible, move belongings out of harm’s way, and take photos or video of what happened.

One important thing to remember: just because the basement looks dry again doesn’t necessarily mean everything is dry. Water can make its way underneath flooring, behind drywall, into insulation, and other places you can’t easily see.
