Happy Wellness Wednesday!

What we tell ourselves every day matters. Yet, it can be difficult to believe something we feel we have no evidence for. Even so, the more we remind ourselves of something, the more we open up the possibility to see the evidence that is sitting right in front of us.

In order to have a good day, things don't always need to go perfectly or go our way. Instead, we have to make the choice that, regardless of what is happening, we can appreciate what we do have and feel good anyway.

A good day can be stitched together, and "Good" can be found in the quiet of a morning, a deep nourishing breath, a present moment outside, a moment that makes you laugh, a gentle nuzzle from a pet, or an animal companion who is very happy to see you and be by your side.

The invitation here is to take a moment today to notice the good around you, even in the smallest moments; these can sometimes count more than the big ones.

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday, full of simple moments tending to yourself and connecting with your beloved animal family.

Animals who share our lives have a way of reminding us that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Caring for another living being asks us to pay attention. To notice their needs. To respect the life in front of us and recognize that our choices have an impact beyond ourselves.

This feels like a very important piece of what animals are here to teach us: to move through the world with a little more compassion, awareness, and care for the lives around us.

For today’s Mindful Monday, the invitation is to consider one small way you can nurture life around you today.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Happy Fun Fat Friday! Today, we are focusing on some cool facts about cats!

Did you know cats actually walk on their toes rather than on the soles of their feet?

Cats are digitigrade animals, meaning their heels stay raised off the ground while they walk on their toes. This unique anatomy helps them move quickly with the agility cats are so well known for.

And if you have ever counted all those tiny toe beans, you know most cats have 18 toes! Five on each front paw and four on each back paw. Of course, there are also polydactyl cats who are born with a few bonus toes.

Cat paw pads are pretty impressive! They contain both scent and sweat glands, with fatty cushioning that helps absorb the impact of walking, running, and jumping while also allowing cats to move with quiet stealth.

Next time you watch a cat quietly sneak across the room, leap onto something they definitely weren’t supposed to be on, or casually knock something off the counter, take a second to appreciate those tiny paws.

Learning little things like this can give us an entirely new appreciation for our precious animals.

Happy Wellness Wednesday! Today, we are focusing on wellness through the human-animal bond.

Some of the most meaningful connections we form do not require words. They are simple and shared through our presence and energy.

A bond with an animal can often be one of these connections and can provide some of the purest forms of comfort without needing language.

Our animals may not know the full details of our day, yet they can sense what we are going through. They know when we are sad, depleted, happy, and uplifted. Our animals are always responding to our energy, what we are feeling, and what we are projecting outward. When we are sad, they will be a soul to rest with. When we are joyful, they will be there to play and dance with us.

Sharing a space with our animals, taking time to connect with them in our hearts, and recognizing the unconditional love that they are, can help us remember that there is another being who truly understands us. These quiet moments of presence with one another can be more than enough to remind us that with them, we are never alone.

Today the invitation is to take a few moments in presence with your pets, whether they are right next to you or across the room; allow your awareness to settle fully into the space you are in. Be where you are with your pet and allow yourself to appreciate the bond you share from the smallest of moments to the moments that will stay with you for years to come.

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday, full of simple moments tending to yourself and connecting with your beloved animal family.

Happy Mindful Monday! Here is a little mindfulness practice for your day:

Pause for a moment. Take a deep breath, and look around you as though you are noticing your surroundings for the very first time. Scan around you slowly, yet quickly enough to not linger on any one object for too long. Breathe and be present where you are. Engage in this practice for a few minutes.

What do you see that you may normally pass by without noticing?

What can you hear?

What does the air feel like?

Is there an animal nearby whose presence you can appreciate?

Notice what is around you. Be where you are.

Becoming present can be as simple as being curious about this moment.

It can be as easy as noticing the things around you, as though you are noticing them for the first time. You know, the little things that are always there but you may not have looked at in months. The smallest of things, from objects sitting on shelves, to an individual leaf fluttering gently in the breeze, to that precious dark patch of fur on your pup’s mostly uniform coat.

Take a few breaths, and be here, right where you are. There is nowhere else you need to be, but this moment.

Focusing on presence gives us opportunities to slow down and experience the world more fully. When we are present, this supports our well-being, the well-being of those around us, and that of the animals in our care. At PAWS, practices like these are at the core of what we believe in.

Wishing you a blessed Monday, full of Mindful Moments.

It’s Fun Fact Friday, and dogs never stop amazing us!

Did you know some gifted word-learning dogs can remember the names of their toys even after two years without seeing them? And it gets even more interesting. Researchers have found that a rare group of these gifted dogs can learn the names of new objects simply by overhearing conversations between humans.

Just think about that for a moment. Dogs are almost always listening, observing, learning, and taking in so much of the world happening around them.

It makes you wonder how much our own dogs understand that we may never even realize.

Our animals are constantly reminding us just how much is going on behind those sweet eyes, and how much there still is for us to learn about the way they experience the world.

As we work toward the next phase for PAWS, we are dedicated to creating a space where animals are seen and understood as the unique individuals they are, with their own personalities, needs, ways of communicating, and ways of experiencing the world.

We are currently raising funds to help us unlock a 100K matching grant.

Special bonds with animals provide a level of companionship that exists beyond words.

Companion animals may help reduce feelings of loneliness and increase our sense of social support.

Anyone who has had an animal curl up beside them on a difficult day, follow them from room to room, greet them at the door, or simply sit quietly nearby may understand just how meaningful that companionship can be.

The relationships we share with animals can become such an important part of our lives and our well-being. And that relationship goes both ways. Our presence, care, and companionship matter to them too.

We are currently fundraising to unlock a significant matching grant. Your support helps us move closer to creating a space where relationships like these can be nurtured every day.

Animals teach us so much simply by sharing our lives. They invite us to slow down, pay attention, practice patience, love a little more freely, and be present for the small moments.

For today’s Mindful Monday, take a moment to think about an animal who has helped shape who you are. What have they taught you?

Do you agree that animals have the ability to help us be better versions of ourselves?

At PAWS, we are building a space rooted in the understanding of the importance of the human-animal relationship for overall well-being. We are currently fundraising to unlock a 100k matching grant that is instrumental to our ability to be of greater service.

Every gift, share, and bit of support helps us move closer.

Two peas in a pod!

Meet Sol & Ruffus, two of our PAWS rescues and the very best of friends!

These two love doing everything together. Whether they’re exploring, playing, relaxing, or just hanging out side by side, you can almost always find one somewhere near the other.

Watching the friendship they’ve formed is such a sweet reminder that animals build meaningful relationships of their own. These two bring so much personality, love, and joy into every day, and we’re so grateful they found their way to PAWS.

Sol & Ruffus are also two of the reasons we are working so hard toward our next chapter.

We are currently raising funds to help unlock a significant matching grant. Your support will help us create the space to say yes to more animals who need us and give them the opportunity to feel safe, cared for, and at home.

🤍🐾 Every donation and share helps bring us closer.

The bond we share with animals can be extraordinary.

They become part of our lives in ways that can be difficult to put into words. They are there for the everyday ordinary moments, the challenging and difficult ones, and so many of the moments that become some of our favorite memories.

For this Wellness Wednesday, take a moment to appreciate an animal who has made a difference in your life. Spend some time reflecting and simply appreciating that somehow, out of all the lives in this world, yours became intertwined.

🤍 And while you’re here, we have a little reminder from PAWS.

We are currently raising funds to help us take the next steps toward establishing our permanent sanctuary. Every donation brings us closer to creating a space dedicated to animal wellness, compassionate care, and the human-animal bond.

We are also working toward the amount needed to unlock our matching grant funding, which means your support can go even further.
