Mil Gracias Katie!! After 15 years of passionate, dedicated and courageous leadership at Philanthropiece we announce that our Executive Director, Katie Doyle Myers, will be wrapping up her time with us at the end of May 2024.

There truly isn’t enough space and time here to publicly acknowledge and thank you Katie for the innumerable ways in which you have positively impacted all of us at Philanthropiece, individually and organizationally. From the shores of Baja to the highlands of Guatemala, through Nicaragua and Ecuador and a deep dive at our own frontera, it has been an honor to share this journey with you.

We have cultivated youth global leaders, birthed foreign civil associations, nurtured grassroots movements and organizations and brought together public and private partners to solve our communities’ pressing needs; all of this under your keen and kind leadership. You led us through the Covid pandemic, deftly guiding us to pivot and reposition ourselves in a way that led to deep impact in our local community, getting help to the most vulnerable.

Your impacts go deep, and they go wide, and we are all grateful to have walked this path with you. Wishing you great happiness and success wherever life takes you. Adelante!

A few weeks ago, our COR(E) Partner in Mexico, Philanthropiece AC, participated in La Ruta de la Conexión. This involved hosting a mini-talk and a workshop on invisible expenses and the benefits of financial education. 💰

The turnout was great! We were so pleased to see local organizations and fishing community leaders from Baja California Sur, Bayarit, and Yucatan in attendance. ✅

When a community of people, partners, and institutions come together, we see the impact on financial wellness. It is a joy to see community members take control of their savings, so they can plan for their future.

Earlier this year, our COR(E) Partner hosted a helpful workshop for entrepreneurs. At the event, business owners learned how to boost their sales by using impactful storytelling techniques. 📖

This was such an incredible learning experience for local Guatemalan entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses. 🙌 Throughout the workshop, Alterna of Quetzaltenango was assessing the positive impact that businesses have in the Ixil Region.

The Boulder County Climate Justice Collaborative is led by four fearless Steering Committee members:

👏 Iris Prieto, who identifies and cultivates community-based frontline leadership in Boulder County. She’s a proud Mexican-American business owner who actively engages in community initiatives, including the Boulder County Latino Chamber Board and the City of Longmont Equitable Climate Action Team.

👏 Marianne Shiple, who ensures local government aligns with the grassroots leadership of the CJC. She’s the Climate Justice Program Coordinator for Boulder County Public Health. Marianne credits her passions for social equity and salsa dancing to her Miamian and Peruvian roots.

👏 Micha Kurz, who rallies Boulder County’s support for the CJC. He has experience in founding organizations and collaborating on political movements globally. Committed to centering marginalized voices and learning from communities, he challenges militarized policies and colonial politics while advocating for grassroots initiatives.

👏 Alejandro Murillo, who keeps everyone on track! He was born in Venezuela and raised in Boulder. Alejandro intertwined his love of nature and community organizing with his pursuit of climate justice. His expertise is in geology, and he focuses on reducing hierarchy in governance structures.

Happy Earth Day! 🌍 Here’s to protecting our beautiful planet and ensuring that it’s here for future generations to enjoy.

Marginalized communities often are disproportionately impacted by environmental degradation and extreme weather events—despite contributing the least to the problem. It’s on us to fix this. 💪

Climate justice creates fair solutions to climate change and addresses its impact on ALL communities. It's about protecting human rights and securing a sustainable future for everyone.
