For over a decade, we’ve learned what it truly takes to support women as they rebuild their lives after incarceration. It isn’t just one big program or a single solution.

Successful reentry support starts with the little things:
• A bus pass to get to therapy.
• Help navigating Medicaid.
• Childcare coordination so a mother does not have to choose between her child and a probation appointment.
• Safe housing, steady encouragement, and care that sees the whole person.

This is where TRI’s wraparound support makes a life-changing difference. 🫶 Stability is not a small win. It is the foundation for healing, recovery, family connection, and a real chance to move forward.

At TRI, we walk alongside women with personalized, holistic support that meets urgent needs while also helping them build lasting strength. In this way women are better able to stay engaged, meet their goals, and begin to believe in their own future again.

In our latest Myth vs. Truth, we are looking at the realities of incarceration.

Every year, 90% of people who go to prison return to their communities, but for many, reentry is an uphill journey.

Research shows that about two-thirds of those released are likely to be rearrested within three years, underscoring just how critical real support is in this season of transition.

Factors that contribute to successful reintegration include:
✔️ Access to stable employment
✔️ Availability of transitional housing
✔️ Support from mentoring programs

Addressing these areas can significantly improve the chances of individuals successfully reintegrating into their communities. At TRI, our programs offer support for all of this and much more. Our wrap-around approach ensures justice-involved adults thrive in the community without reoffending.

Food has a beautiful way of bringing people together. 🥘

At our April cooking class, our Executive Director, Emily, guided us in making Buffalo Baked Chicken Wings and Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers. The true magic wasn't just the delicious food, it was the shared laughter, the new skills built, and the joy of sitting down to enjoy a meal as a family. And everyone went home with recipe cards to easily recreate these snacks at home again. 😋

Stay tuned for the recap of our May class! Emily shows us how to create a Cinco de Mayo feast which is delicious, festive, and all on a budget. We can’t wait to keep learning and celebrating together.

Today we’re shining a light on Mary, a TRI volunteer whose dedication and compassion support our community.

Mary is a member of a Denver group that cooks meals from scratch, freezes, and delivers them to TRI every other week. This has ensured that our Members feel nourished and that our events are warm and welcoming.

She’s also recently offered to donate ingredients for TRI’s new monthly cooking classes! Mary’s steady support reminds us that true community is built on care and consistency.

Thank you, Mary, for embodying the spirit of service and showing how one person’s generosity can uplift us all. Please join us in celebrating her!

Coming home after incarceration brings both challenges and new chances for connection. For many, reuniting with family is a powerful step forward. At TRI, we focus on restoring bonds and supporting each other in building brighter futures.

This International Day of Families, we celebrate Anita, a social worker whose compassion is woven into every family she serves. Anita specializes in supporting parents, especially mothers facing the pain of separation from their children, through some of the toughest chapters of their lives. With 1:1 parenting classes, supervised visit support, and fierce, unwavering advocacy, she walks alongside families as they navigate court requirements, rebuild trust, and work toward reunification.

For mothers working to meet court requirements or fighting to regain custody, Anita is a steady source of hope and support, gently encouraging them to trust their strength, believe in second chances, and hold on to the truth that they are more than the challenges they face.

For many, the hardest battles begin after release. The journey home is often marked by deep anxiety, trauma, and the unique challenges of Post-Incarceration Syndrome (PICS).

These challenges can make reentry feel isolating and nearly impossible without the right support in place.

At The Reentry Initiative, we recognized these complex needs long before the term PICS became widely discussed. TRI's programs were intentionally built to address every layer of the reentry journey.

Our approach integrates clinical mental healthcare for trauma, substance use, and depression with practical support like peer mentorship, career training, and help finding stable housing.

And our wraparound support doesn’t stop there: we also connect members with real community, dignity, and hope through person-centered care. This trauma-responsive design keeps people from falling through the cracks.

The impact of TRI's work is profound. Please support us in continuing to provide a pathway to healing that addresses the root causes of justice involvement and creates lasting change.

If you're interested in learning more about PICS, please visit the National Incarceration Association. Like TRI, they are dedicated to fostering successful reentry with compassion and care: https://bit.ly/4eYEfxB

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we're celebrating the courageous healing journeys of our TRI members.

We are so incredibly proud of the three men who recently graduated from our "Just Heal, Bro." program! 🎉

Using Dr. Jay Barnett's powerful curriculum, they embraced vulnerability and did the hard work to heal from within. In our latest video, they share their favorite parts of the experience: discovering the true meaning of integrity, finding peace through color and drawing exercises, and experiencing profound breakthroughs by writing necessary letters to themselves.

At The Reentry Initiative, we know that healing is a courageous step forward. Watch the video to hear directly from our members and join us in celebrating their incredible journey!

MYTH: People leaving prison don’t want to work or rebuild their lives.

FACT: Most people returning home are highly motivated to move forward, but they face serious barriers like finding housing, employment, and support.

At The Reentry Initiative, we see every day how access to the right resources can make the difference between struggling and successfully rebuilding a life.

Changing the narrative around reentry starts with understanding the facts.

If this surprised you, share this post to help break the stigma around life after incarceration.
