Interested in helping create aquatic habitat and a more resilient river?

We’d love your input!

The Apple Valley River Restoration Project (led by The Watershed Center with support from St. Vrain Anglers TU, state and local partners) will enhance fish habitat and reconnect the river to its floodplain just upstream of Lyons,
with construction planned for this fall through winter. We’re gauging interest in volunteer opportunities and would appreciate your feedback.

Please select the activity that sounds most appealing to you:

1. Willow Cutting (Fall 2026): Help harvest willow poles from a nearby site (around 63rd Street/Niwot) for use in restoration.
Moderate physical activity; involves bending and cutting near the base.

2. Woody Structure Installation (Winter 2026–2027): Assist with placing and securing woody habitat features during construction.
Higher physical activity; includes carrying
materials, crouching, and moving rock.

3. Other: let us know what other activities related to conservation and habitat restoration interest you most (such as planting/seeding, w**d pulling, data collection)

We would like a response by June 10th in order to plan the activities with The
Watershed Center.

Join us 6:30pm Wednesday May 2Oth at the Longmont Theater for the 2026 international fly fishing film festival! Come watch an epic film and raise money for a good cause!

Money from ticket sales goes directly to help with improvements and care for the saint vrain water shed! Your money goes towards river cleanup, youth education and advocacy, youth fishing programs, water quality monitoring, conservation and much more!

Today, St. Vrain Anglers TU was at LaVern M. Johnson Park in Lyons for our "Trout in the Classroom" release! We were joined by students from Niwot and Silver Creek High Schools as they released the fry they’ve spent the semester raising.

This isn't just about fish—it's about inspiring the next generation of stewards for the St. Vrain Basin.

A huge shoutout to Education Chair Brooks Hollar and all our volunteers for coordinating this effort. Happy Earth Day.

A short, interesting blog post from Colorado TU from yesterday talking about the importance of our snowpack.

Here is an excerpt: Colorado’s rivers support our communities, our ecosystems, and the ways people connect with water across the state. Every river needs people willing to pay attention to what’s happening upstream and why it matters, especially in low snow years.

This winter, Colorado has seen unusually low snowpack. According to data from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, statewide snowpack is currently about 58 percent of median levels. Conditions vary across the state, but overall snow accumulation is well below what is typical for this time of year. These conditions raise important questions about what this year may mean for rivers, watersheds, communities, ecosystems, and recreation as the season unfolds.
