Clean water and coldwater habitat start at the headwaters.

As a chapter, St. Vrain Anglers TU normally stays out of national political debates. But when a policy directly impacts the health of our watersheds, public lands, and trout fisheries, we have to speak up.

The 2001 Roadless Rule protects roughly 45–58 million acres of national forest headwaters from industrial road building and extraction. These intact backcountry streams act as the biological engine for entire river systems, keeping water clean, cold, and sediment-free for downstream trout populations.

Why speak up now?
The U.S. Forest Service has proposed a complete rescission of the national Roadless Rule.

How to take action:

1. Visit the link in our bio to access TU's Take Action page with a comment submission already started for you.

2. Submit your comment opposing the rescission before the September 21 deadline.

3. Tell them as an angler, clean water and intact public lands matter to you. Our rivers need a voice - let’s make sure they hear ours.

Interested in helping create aquatic habitat and a more resilient river?

We’d love your input!

The Apple Valley River Restoration Project (led by The Watershed Center with support from St. Vrain Anglers TU, state and local partners) will enhance fish habitat and reconnect the river to its floodplain just upstream of Lyons,
with construction planned for this fall through winter. We’re gauging interest in volunteer opportunities and would appreciate your feedback.

Please select the activity that sounds most appealing to you:

1. Willow Cutting (Fall 2026): Help harvest willow poles from a nearby site (around 63rd Street/Niwot) for use in restoration.
Moderate physical activity; involves bending and cutting near the base.

2. Woody Structure Installation (Winter 2026–2027): Assist with placing and securing woody habitat features during construction.
Higher physical activity; includes carrying
materials, crouching, and moving rock.

3. Other: let us know what other activities related to conservation and habitat restoration interest you most (such as planting/seeding, w**d pulling, data collection)

We would like a response by June 10th in order to plan the activities with The
Watershed Center.

Money from ticket sales goes directly to help with improvements and care for the saint vrain water shed! Your money goes towards river cleanup, youth education and advocacy, youth fishing programs, water quality monitoring, conservation and much more!

There’s no better way to celebrate Earth Day than by giving back to the river that gives us so much.

Today, St. Vrain Anglers TU was at LaVern M. Johnson Park in Lyons for our "Trout in the Classroom" release! We were joined by students from Niwot and Silver Creek High Schools as they released the fry they’ve spent the semester raising.

This isn't just about fish—it's about inspiring the next generation of stewards for the St. Vrain Basin.

A huge shoutout to Education Chair Brooks Hollar and all our volunteers for coordinating this effort. Happy Earth Day.
