Boy Scout Troop 236 - Long Valley, NJ

This past weekend our scouts enjoyed a unique camping experience at Sterling Mines as part of the 2025 Skylands District Fall Camporee.

Scouts got to camp next to the observatory, explore parts of the grounds the public typically doesn’t get to see, and learned more about this world-famous, local geological site. A fun time was had by all!

Mike is a former Troop 236 Senior Patrol Leader and Philmont Crew Leader. He also led the first Troop 236 team to break into the top 10 at the annual Klondike Derby.

Well done Troop 236 on another awesome Klondike run.

Congratulations to team Iron Beavers on securing first place in the junior division and well done to the Screaming Eagles for securing a close second place finish in the senior division.

Resica Falls Backpack Camping Trip!

Another exciting challenging trip in the bag for our adventurous scouts. Last weekend we did another backpack camping trip. For this trip we hiked out with all our gear and tents to a fishing lake and then on to the falls. It was quite the challenge for the scouts but everyone made it and had a blast. Many fish were caught, many campfire stories told and some spurious MREs consumed. The weather and scenery made this the perfect fall camping trip.

We’ve been busy celebrating our newest Eagle Scouts this summer!

Last night Troop 236 hosted their 2024 Spring Court of Honor. Lots of scouts had their newly achieved ranks recognised all the way from Scout Rank to Eagle Rank. The boys have also been working hard on merit badges but also having a lot of fun and making memories on camping trips including a backpacking trip and a canoe trip. The end of the school year also marked the transition from current to new Senior Patrol Leader. Lastly, there was also a transition from current to new Scoutmaster! It was a packed evening with lots to celebrate and countless achievements to recognise. The boys are now looking forward to Summer Camp in July, a highlight each year for many of them.

This past weekend a group of 30 volunteers from Troop 236 took part in the annual Earth Day River clean up. They collected 18 bags of trash along with a variety of other items like scrap metal, buckets, snow shovels and tires.

The March camping trip was at NoBeBoSco and everyone had a lot of fun. A great Saturday morning hike, a little fishing, cooking requirements met, some chess, a lot of bonding and of course some torrential rain!
