So, sadly, the best Scout camp property in the nation, Cedarlands Scout Reservation, has sold for $3.5 million. But remember that most of the camp remains open to the public for most of the year. The Scout Pond area is open to the public year-round while everything except the base camp area, including McRorie Lake and the mountains, is open to the public from August 24 to June 23.

The Upper Mohawk Council, Inc. sold Adirondack Park property to Long Lake LLC Cedarlands Properties in September 2023 for $3.5 million.

17 years after purchasing the Cedarlands conservation easement, the State finalizes the Recreation Management Plan for the easement.

Apparently an agreement to sell Cedarlands Scout Reservation has been reached. We'll share more details as they are available.

Keep in mind that under the Conservation Easement on the property, that passes with the sale, the public still has the right to use the majority of the property (including Lake McRorie, the islands, and the mountains) 10 months out of the year and this part of the property can never be developed. And development rights of the small base camp area are severely restricted.

The DEC has released a Draft Recreation Management Plan for the Cedarlands Conservation Easement, and there will be a public meeting in Long Lake on the plan on June 22 and the DEC will accept written comments on the plan through July 14. It is with great sadness that we share that longtime Cedarlands staffer, volunteer, and friend to all Gerry Showalter has passed away.

Always quick with a story or a joke, he exemplified the best of Scouting. Thomas Labayewski posted this very appropriate tribute on Gerry's page:
"Gerry, I truly hope in your heaven you're walking the trails of Cedarlands meeting up with old friends."
I think many of us would hope for that as our eternal reward.
