“Nostrand Houses is going to college!!” was the resounding cheer on Saturday in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, as children and families joined the NYCHA Nostrand Houses Resident Association, New York City New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust, and NYC Kids RISE for a College & Career Breakfast.

We broke bread together and talked about the college and career dreams of some of the youngest residents of Nostrand Houses. While children designed their own coin savings banks and sketched their career dreams, we celebrated that more than 100 Kindergarten-Fourth graders living in Nostrand Houses already have nearly $18,000 set aside for future college and career training. And together, we are just getting started!

P.S. 244Q’s Kindergarten Moving Up ceremony yesterday included a special announcement: Every student at the K-3 school with an NYC Scholarship Account received additional funds for their college and career future through the inaugural P.S. 244Q PTA Community Scholarship 2026! 🎉🎓

🍎With the support of Council Member Sandra Ung, the Community Scholarship was boosted by a contribution from Apple Bank doubling the funds raised by the PTA from community members. After the announcement, even more P.S. 244Q families activated their children’s NYC Scholarship Accounts to see the additional money already invested for their kids’ educational futures!

🌟This Community Scholarship is a glowing example of the NYC Kids RISE Program, a universal wealth building platform for New York City neighborhoods, in action – demonstrating how parents and guardians, the community, local elected officials, and local businesses can come together to support their children in dreaming big for their future and providing resources to help make those dreams come true.

Reporting live from LaGuardia Community College LaGuardia Community College (LAGCC), 🏫 IS429 8th graders share about their college and career dreams and everything they’re learning through the CUNY Explorers Program, including reinforcing how the money in their NYC Scholarship Accounts can help them pursue diverse college and career pathways and cover higher education expenses, from tuition to computers to housing and books.

8 District30 middle schools are taking students to visit 5 City University of New York college campuses through the Program this spring thanks to the Gray Foundation. Perfect timing as these students, alongside 8th graders across the district, are gearing up for a special graduation season. D30 8th graders will be the first students in New York City graduating middle school and heading to high school with money invested for their futures through the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program.

Calling all 4th grade families — it’s ! students in kindergarten through 4th grade have free NYC Scholarship Accounts with money already invested for future college and career training through the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program! The money can grow through rewards for taking steps in the Program and through Community Scholarships.

Take the first step by activating your child’s NYC Scholarship Account to earn your first reward for your child’s future before the end of the school year and your 4th grader’s last year of elementary school! Visit nyckr.org/activate, then keep viewing the account together to see the money growing for their college and career dreams.

Parent Coordinators build the bridges that welcome and support families as close partners in setting our kids up for success. When families feel connected to their children’s schools, students are more likely to feel supported, engaged, and accepted.

Parent Coordinators have been building the NYC Kids RISE Program since its inception — partnering with families on college and career readiness, strengthening school-community ties and financial education and empowerment.

Guidance counselors are a lifeline for students across the city — building bridges and breaking down barriers on each student’s journey to the next academic milestone. We got to see and celebrate the ways they’re giving students powerful tools to pursue their dreams every day. We joined the elementary and middle school guidance counselors for a day of learning and development. Together, we explored the role the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program plays in guidance conversations with students — sparking their ideas about diverse college and career pathways and about how to use the money in their NYC Scholarship Accounts.

D30 school communities, founding partners for the launch and pilot of the Program, are gearing up for a very special graduation season this year. D30 8th graders will be the first students in New York City graduating middle school and heading to high school with money already set aside for their future college and career training through the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program. Thank you to D30 guidance counselors for building students’ confidence in their brilliance, their bright futures, and the support they have from their whole community to pursue their passions in high school and beyond!
