The Jelly Roll Race Championships are set for Saturday, May 30 at the LA County Fair!

After exciting qualifying heats filled with fast sewing, teamwork, and plenty of fun, our final matchups are ready:

12:00 PM — Consolation Round
Quilters by the Sea vs. East LA Stitchers – Team Churn Dash

2:00 PM — Championship Round
South Bay Quilters Guild vs. Inland Empire MQG

Come cheer on these amazing teams as they race for bragging rights and Jelly Roll Race glory at the fairgrounds!

Join LBMQG & Bohemian Folk Barn Quilts on May 25 or May 26 (10:30 AM – 4:30 PM) at Sports Basement – Long Beach. You’ll work on a prepped aluminum composite board (perfect for outdoor display), choose from a variety of designs or bring your own, and explore 75+ paint colors to make it uniquely yours.

Multiple size options are available, all supplies are included, and lunch is provided—just show up ready to create.

Join us today for Jelly Roll Races at the LA County Fair in the Home Arts Building 5. There will be two exciting races today including a Modern Quilt Guild showdown between LBMQG and IEMQG at 2 pm! 🎉

Winners of today’s races will face off against either the East LA Stitchers – Team Churn Dash or the South Bay Quilters Guild in May 30th. The top time so far? A potential recording 27 minutes and 26 seconds by SBQA! 🤩

Here are today’s matchups:

Exciting results from the Jelly Roll Races at the LA County Fair!

Congratulations to East LA Stitchers – Team Churn Dash for winning their heat with an impressive time of 45 minutes and 22 seconds.

A big congratulations as well to South Bay Quilters Guild, who secured their win in an outstanding 27 minutes and 26 seconds!

What a fun day of friendly competition, creativity, and community. Photos are coming soon—stay tuned!

The LA County Fair is coming soon—and that means it’s almost time for the Jelly Roll Races!

Get ready for thrilling quilting matchups as guilds from across Southern California compete in high-energy sewing showdowns at the fair. Tickets to the fair are on sale now so you can come cheer on these terrific teams, enjoy fair food, the wonderful home arts exhibit and so much more.

Saturday, May 9
12:00 PM — Flying Geese Quilters Guild vs. East LA Stitchers – Team Churn Dash
2:00 PM — East LA Stitchers – Team Nine-Patch vs. South Bay Quilters Guild

Saturday, May 16
12:00 PM — Quilters by the Sea vs. African American Quilters of LA
2:00 PM — Long Beach MQG vs. Inland Empire MQG

The winners from each qualifying heat will advance to the Final Round on May 30!

Join us for Open Sew Day this Saturday at Sports Basement—everyone is welcome, and it’s free to attend.

Bring your project and sewing machine. We meet on the 3rd floor.

Next Open Sew Day:

Saturday, April 18 | 10 am – 4 pm

We also have scheduled sew days continuing through December on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Locations will vary between the 3rd floor and 2nd floor.

We’re also working on adding weekend sew days for the remainder of the year. The Sports Basement is a popular weekend venue for their community space, so securing time slots is in progress.

Come sew, connect, and spend time with fellow quilters.
