Mission alignment is critical in any business, especially in the first responder space.
We need to know our agency’s mission, understand the mission of the person leading it, and recognize what our own actions must look like to move that mission forward.
Early in my law enforcement career, during some of my darkest moments, my personal mission did not align with the ethical standards of my agency. I was doing things I convinced myself were right and making excuses for why they had to be done that way.
When I took responsibility and realigned my personal mission with the mission of my leaders and my agency, things changed. The work became clearer. I became a better teammate. And I was able to make a far greater impact on the people we served.
That alignment starts with the decisions we make every day. When we get the order right, we become stronger leaders today and put our teams in a better position tomorrow.
Mission first. Team second. Self third.
