Our YouthBuild Corpsmembers are putting their skills to work and gaining valuable hands-on experience in the construction trades! From learning proper tool handling and construction techniques to practicing framing, installing building materials, and safely using ladders, our Corpsmembers are developing practical skills under the guidance of experienced supervisors.

Every lesson on the jobsite is an opportunity to build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and gain the technical knowledge needed to pursue careers in construction and the skilled trades.

We’re not just building structures because we’re building pathways to brighter futures! Check out a YouthBuild crew in action as they turn hands-on training into real-world career opportunities.

Over the weekend, was at the heart of the local disaster in Long Beach and worked alongside of Councilmember Kristina Duggan and staff, LB Public Works, and others to aid in disaster relief efforts along the coast. This back breaking work was handled with ease and dedication to not only learning alongside of professionals, but also reaping the benefits of being one with your community and giving back where possible.

Protecting Our Peninsula, One Sandbag at a Time

With powerful storms offshore sending damaging waves crashing against the Long Beach Peninsula, CCLB Corpsmembers are stepping up to support emergency efforts to protect coastal homes, residents, and property from further damage.

Working alongside the shoreline, our crews are filling and positioning sandbags, removing storm debris and damaged materials, and helping establish protective barriers in areas where powerful surf has battered wooden structures and exposed vulnerable sections of the beachfront.

From hauling heavy sandbags across uneven terrain to clearing debris around damaged walkways and waterfront properties, Corpsmembers are working in challenging conditions to support immediate protective measures and help minimize additional storm-related impacts.

Beyond the urgent need to protect the community, this work provides valuable hands-on training in emergency response, hazard awareness, debris management, and disaster recovery preparing our young adults with skills they can carry into future careers.

We’re proud of our staff and Corpsmembers for answering the call and helping safeguard our coastal community when it matters most.

Protecting people and property. Strengthening coastal resilience. Building tomorrow’s workforce.

Our Shore Corps team joined to conduct a fish survey at the Golden Shore Ecological Preserve in Long Beach. Corpsmembers helped retrieve a seine net, learned to identify fish, and helped count the representative species in the Preserve. Conducting a fish survey prior to any work in an area is critical to getting a baseline understanding of the aquatic ecosystem to determine the potential impact of any disturbance in an area. Working with partners like Tidal Influence helps connect our corpsmembers with field experts and gain valuable field research skills.
