During a recent webinar hosted by the Social Media Association, panelist Todd Giannattasio shared valuable insight on one of the toughest parts of managing social media: deciding when to delete comments and when to respond thoughtfully.

According to Todd, spam bots and fake accounts are usually an easy call — delete and move on. But when the comment comes from a real customer with a real experience, brands need to slow down and respond with professionalism, empathy, and care.

One of the biggest takeaways?

Don’t react emotionally. Take a moment, assess the situation, and focus on responding responsibly and thoughtfully.
