The word is symbolic because Ilongos love life, enjoyment, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging. This feeling can be attributed to the elegant affairs and lavish fiestas that the Ilongos celebrate, be it for Baptism, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Weddings or in honor of their town Patron Saint. Kawilihan was born on Adriatic Ave., Long Beach, and the idea came from a group of Ilongos who used to gath

er every weekend. It has been a drinking spree; at the same time, the group would wile away the hours telling funny stories and singing Filipino and Ilongo folk songs. This gathering was held not only to console themselves from getting homesick from their loved ones back in the Philippines, but also to break away from the monotony of long weekdays of hard work. Nelson, this group was established in 1981.

Hello Kawilihan: We are very sad to inform you that yesterday our beloved Club President, Mike Chiu had passed away while vacationing in the Philippines. Please keep him and the whole family in your prayers. Once we know more information regarding funeral etc. we will post it here. We are so shocked by this news as he has been doing a great job at reviving our club. He wasn't even formally inducted as President yet, and he has done great things this year for Kawilihan thus far. He will be missed by all...
