Its history is well known and appreciated not only in this community but also in music circles around the world.

Week 5: Spectacular Sounds of Cinema

Major composers of the world are choosing to write for the film industry where they know their works will be heard by millions. Their music provides considerable impact to screen action. The emotional power of music combined with modern film techniques lead movie audiences into ever-reaching levels of fantasy. Mark Kopitzke joins the studio band performing his classic jazz stylings ending a great musical evening in style.

WEEK FOUR JULY 16 – 19 CLASSICAL FAVORITES
The municipal band has performed over one million selections over its 110 year history. At one time their yearly scheduled included over 600 events. This week conductor Curtis has selected, for your enjoyment, some classic compositions both old and new from the band’s historic repertoire. Vocalist Meloney Collins is back with her special abilities to “wow” audiences.

A constellation of stars to be recognized and acclaimed as an international “Star” in any artistic career is an achievement level seldom reached. This week the municipal band pays tribute to many talented vocal performers who have reached spectacular heights. Tony Galla highlights our salute to the stars by performing his crowd pleasing vocal renditions.

The Long Beach Municipal Band's 109th season continues this Tuesday, July 10 at Bixby/ Bluff Park, between Cherry and Junipero Avenues. The theme will be “A Musical Journey" with music from around the world and vocalist Meloney Collins singing with the Studio Band. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free.

The Long Beach Municipal Band’s theme this week will be “Cinemagic - The Music of John Williams." Vocalist Julie Ragins will close the show. Tuesday, July 25 at Bluff Park; Wednesday, July 26 at Los Cerritos Park; Thursday, July 27 at Marine Stadium; and Friday, July 28 at El Dorado Park West. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.

WEEK 5
Cinemagic - The Music of John Williams
John Williams is the most prolific composer of our time. The volume of his works for films and concert halls speak for themselves. Over 110 films scores, 15 orchestral works, and 12 television show themes - all in the last 40 years! To date, John Williams has received over 50 Grammy awards. Conductor Curtis has selected a representive group of compositions for your enjoyment in honor of this great American music icon. To add to the festivities we welcome vocalist Julie Ragins to the stage.

The Long Beach Municipal Band’s theme this week will be “Those "Looney" Tunes.” Bring the kids, young and old, as this music was written for all ages. If you like, come in costume for the occasion! Animated movies provide inspiration for composers to let their hair down and create the craziest and zaniest of music. It takes highly trained performers to play it well. Come listen and enjoy as your Long Beach Municipal Band gives it a try.

These Great Free Concerts In The Park Feature The Sounds Of Big Band, Pop, Jazz, Blues And More. All Concerts Begin At 6:30 P.M. Bring Your Family, A Picnic Dinner And Enjoy A Wonderful Evening Outdoors In The Park.

WEEK 1
Strike Up the Bands
We start off the 2017 Summer Concert Series with a salute to the Big Band Era when Swing was king and dance floors across the Nation resounded with the music of great dance bands such as Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, and Duke Ellington. Add the sensational vocalist Barbara Morrison to the evening and this concert will be one you won't want to miss!
