Today is my birthday, I'm 57. I am happy because I am still alive. After all of these years I have learned that good or bad health begins in your mind and from the examples that others have given you throughout your life. It's a solid decision you make or disregard saying things like, "you only live once" and "life is too short not to enjoy..." I've lost friends and family to health issues. I'll miss them greatly. From them I still learn that health and wellness are the greatest most important things in life.
If I were talking to my son, I would tell him that being a man is something that you have to prove every day of your life. You must decide to be a good man because your family is counting on you at all times. You must take life seriously, especially because you are considered Black in this world. I would tell him that money is important, but it's not everything you need to live a good life. Everything in your body has its own nutritional requirements so take herbs and vitamins. I would tell him to build a family as soon as he finds a worthy woman. You'll know her when you really need help and she helps you wanting nothing in return but your satisfaction. Don't chase s*x. It's a demon that only stops running when you find better things to chase. Imagine the best life you can and make that happen. But, before you do anything, learn everything about what you want to do. In life, you will have regrets. Let them shape you into a better man. If there's ever a time you want to kill yourself, ask yourself this first, "What if I just ride this one out, wait and see what happens next.?" We are all standing in the same line in front of the same door labeled "AFTERLIFE." 25 years ago, that question pulled an M16A2 aimed from the roof of my mouth to the top of my skull, out of my mouth covered in the tears and snot of failure and extreme self-disappointment. I didn't know I was strong until I looked back and saw all the s**t I went through to get here. I didn't just live, I survived. From 1967 to 2024 and still going. I'm still strong and healthy for the most part. I thank God for this life.
