Catalyst Network of Communities

Catalyst Network of Communities The Catalyst Network of Communities is a 501c3 nonprofit social impact organization that helps people and groups to connect, collaborate, and share resources.

We believe that we are better together than we are apart. We need each other. But it's not always easy to connect. We're often disconnected and fragmented and it's easy to get lost in our communities. Sometimes there is too much info to know how to navigate. Sometimes there are too many people to know how to fit. Sometimes there are too many problems to know how to make a real difference. It can g

et overwhelming. We believe that a necessary first step for social change is to inspire people to care - to have empathy. If more people cared, they are more likely to get involved. And there are already tons of ways to get involved. So that's our logic: inspire empathy to motivate people to show up where they can learn enough to get involved so that together we can work towards social impact. Join us!

16 years ago, today, we established Catalyst to help you to connect, collaborate, and share resources. The last couple of years has left a lot of us feeling disconnected. As we emerge from the pandemic, it's time for us to re-engage to build a tangible sense of community!

Join the team and let's see what this could look like together!

We’ve made a lot of progress working towards our close, getting everything ready for our Unlimited Everything Must Go Free Shopping Day on Sept. 13th, 1-5pm. Since our announcement, we’ve also gotten responses from people wanting to start their own Free Sharing Operation (FSO), as well as pre-existing FSOs who will receive some of our closing inventory and support.

If you prefer not to start an ongoing FSO, you can also host a one-time giveaway for your neighborhood. We will give you items from our closing inventory (clothing, household items, toys, etc.) and you can make them available for people in your neighborhood without accepting donations. Remember to have your own social distancing procedures.

For more info and to request inventory, go to http://www.gocatalyst.org/fso-network.

Something amazing happens when people help each other. Community.

It’s now more than ever that we need ways for people to support one another. We'd like to use the inventory from our closing Whittier Free Store to seed new free sharing activities. What if you hosted your own mini free store for your neighborhood? Of course, not exactly what we were doing with the Whittier Free Store - but rather something more simple and manageable for you - just an opportunity for neighbors to give what they can and to receive what they need. And we'd help you!

For more info and to request support for seed inventory, go to http://www.gocatalyst.org/fso-network.

Seed inventory will only be available for the next few weeks during our close out process!

With the closing of our Whittier Free Store in a few weeks, we’re hoping to use the inventory to seed new and pre-existing free sharing operations. Read more about it at http://www.gocatalyst.org/fso-network.

The Whittier Free Store and Artisan Work Lab will be closing in September 2020.

In a nutshell, we've been fortunate and thankful to have been invited by First Christian Church of Whittier to occupy the space so that we could serve the community for the past 5 years. The congregation has since closed their services at the end of 2019 but have graciously allowed us to continue using the space. We've recently been informed that they have had to lease the entire church campus to another large church which means we'll need to move out of the space as soon as possible.

Rather than finding a new space to open and operate in, we have decided to close down our Whittier Free Store and Artisan Work Lab programs. But it's now more than ever during this time of social distancing, social isolation, anxiety, and economic uncertainty that we need ways of connecting with neighbors and helping each other in whatever ways that we can. So we're excited about new possibilities for helping others to start free sharing operations (FSOs).
