It’s official.

We’ve launched a public call for justice for Black workers in Long Beach.

For years, workers have spoken up about discrimination, lack of advancement, and retaliation.
The data backs it up. The City has acknowledged it.

Now we’re demanding action.

The campaign is calling for real accountability, not more delay.

Dignity can’t wait.

Black workers in Long Beach have been raising concerns about discrimination, unsafe conditions, and unequal opportunities for years. They have gone through the proper channels, spoken at City Council meetings, and taken legal action when those systems failed to respond.

What they are asking for is simple. Fairness. Accountability. Respect.

Through the campaign, the Long Beach Black Worker Center is calling on the City of Long Beach, including the Mayor, City Council, department leadership, and union representatives, to take immediate, measurable action to address inequities impacting Black employees.

The data reflects what workers have been saying. Black workers are underrepresented in higher-paying roles and overrepresented in lower-wage positions. These disparities affect not just jobs, but long-term health, stability, and quality of life.

The City has already studied these issues and made commitments to equity. Now it’s time to follow through.

We invite our community, partners, and allies to stand with Black workers in this moment.

Add your name. Demand action.

TONIGHT! 6:30 PM on Zoom is the kickoff of : Power and Pathways, the 2025 monthly edu-series dedicated to building Black Worker Power across Southern California. Learn about access to quality jobs, labor rights, wellness, and how we organize for change in the industries that impact our lives most.

DID YOU KNOW?
Black workers face the highest unemployment rates in California, nearly twice that of white workers, according to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI, 2023). And Black workers are overrepresented in the lowest-paid, most precarious industries — yet underrepresented in unionized, high-wage jobs (Brookings Institution, 2022).

As attacks on our rights and dignity intensify, this space is more than a conversation — it’s a call to action and community. Come connect, learn, reflect, and build with us. When Black workers win, we all win.
