ACOA is proud to partner with local YMCAs to fund swimming lessons not only for underserved children, but for their siblings, parents, and guardians as well.

While still in its early stages, the Family Learn to Swim program is already showing the power of learning together. When families learn to swim side by side, the experience becomes more fun, engaging, and sustainable—helping build confidence and a lifelong connection to the water for the whole family. 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️💙

Thank you to everyone who participated in Sharon van Rouwendaal’s Master Class on open water swimming, made possible by CG SPORTS!

It was a resounding success, and we feel incredibly lucky to have learned from the best of the best. Everyone came in thinking they knew how to swim… only to discover we had barely scratched the surface. 😅

Sharon brought an incredible wealth of knowledge, expertise, experience, and stories, and we’re so grateful she took the time and energy to share it all with us.

Opportunities like this are exactly why we are the Aquatic Capital of America. 🌊🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

So lucky to have Sharon van Rouwendaal join us this year at Naples Island Swims!

“After the races, Sharon greeted athletes after they ran to the finish chute, she answered swimmer’s questions, and walked around the shoreline with a genuinely warm smile on her face. She was the biggest marathon swimming celebrity to participate in the Naples Island Swims since it first started in 1903.”

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a true Long Beach legend and one of the founding members of the Aquatic Capital of America, Dick Miller.

Dick became Chief Lifeguard in 1974 and was appointed Manager of the Marine Bureau in 1984. He retired from the City of Long Beach in 1995, but his dedication to the water and to our community never stopped.

Since his retirement, Dick served as Commodore of the Long Beach Yacht Club and continued to serve on our Board of Directors, tirelessly promoting and supporting aquatics across Long Beach.

His impact is woven into the fabric of our aquatic community. Our Waterman of the Year Award bears his name, a lasting tribute to a man whose life was dedicated to the water and to the people who call Long Beach home.

Dick’s legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched, the athletes and watermen he inspired, and the aquatic community he helped build.

Thank you, Dick, for a lifetime of dedication and service. Your impact has been life-changing for so many, and your legacy will never be forgotten. 🌊
