A beautiful new chapter has been painted onto the walls of Maple Village Waldorf School — and BHCA was proud to help support the process that made it possible. 🌿

Because the school is located within Belmont Heights’ Historic District, the mural required Historic District approval before work could begin. BHCA worked alongside the school to help navigate that process and support a project that honors both the neighborhood’s historic character and the cultural storytelling at the heart of the artwork.

Created by artist and teacher Sea Lee, the mural celebrates Indigenous heritage, native plants, oral storytelling traditions, and the maple tree that inspired the school’s beginnings more than two decades ago. The artwork includes imagery drawn from Indigenous traditions, including the Pleiades constellation and local plant life such as willow, oak, cattails, and elderberry.

We love seeing thoughtful projects like this come to life in Belmont Heights — especially ones that connect art, education, culture, and community in such a meaningful way.

Congratulations to Maple Village Waldorf School, Sea Lee, and everyone who helped bring this vision into the world. Sometimes preserving history also means making space for new stories to be told. 💛

Today’s egg hunt was golden! Scroll to see what happens when hundreds of kids meet almost 5,000 Easter eggs on the Greenbelt. Spoiler: it’s fun. Much appreciation for the Port of Long Beach and all our BHCA volunteers. Thanks for making this 7th year super lucky.
