Our Story
Free event on 2nd St. on Sat., Feb. 17, 2018, at noon encourages men, women, and youth to walk a mile in red shoes or red high heels for Heart Health Month.
For February’s heart health month, Justin Rudd’s nonprofit Community Action Team (C.A.T.) invites the public to the 8th annual “Red High Heels Walk” on the sidewalks of 2nd St. All ages of men and women are invited to walk the 1-mile route wearing red shoes or red high heels and other red clothing. It’s free to enter and no fundraising is required.
Registration, start and finish will take place at Livingston Park, corner of Livingston Drive and Park Ave. On-site registration begins at 11:30 a.m.
Approx. 150 people took part in last year’s event. Participants are encouraged to create and carry heart health messages on signs during the procession. The walk takes about 30 minutes.
The event aims to bring awareness about the importance of heart health, while also raising funds for schools, places of worship, nonprofits, clubs and organizations in the Long Beach area.
GROUPS CAN EARN MONEY by walking in red shoes or red high heels during the event. Teams, places of worship, scout troops, schools, and clubs who bring 20 or more members and friends who complete the walk wearing red shoes (not just red laces) will receive $5 per person. And, CAT will double that amount ($10) for those in the group wearing red heels (following guidelines below exactly). CAT will donate up to $3,000 for the day. Every person in the group must be signed in by 11:50, sharp, and be part of the group’s official photograph. Groups must RSVP with a firm number of participants and first/last names at least 24 hours in advance to [email protected]. Groups are not allowed to recruit others at the event. The idea is for groups to recruit participants before event day.
Completely spray painted shores are acceptable. Organizers are looking for solid red shoes, not just red shoe laces or red taped shoes, not pink or burgundy shoes, not flip-flops. Organizers consider high heels to be 2-5 inches. Participants must walk the entire 1-mile route.
