"Having the Conversation " – End of Life Decision Making on
Friday June 12, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm

The public is invited to join us for our first “Soup & Sandwich” series talk of the year, “Having the Conversation.” This is an informal discussion on the topics of living wills, advance care directives, and how to approach end-of-life decision making.

Participants will explore ways to approach this often-difficult topic with their families and loved ones. It will be led by Neighborhood Connections staff member Lois Schram Osnow, a licensed clinical social worker with an extensive background in gerontology. Prior to moving to Vermont, she was co-founder and owner of LS Gerontology Seminars, founded in 2002, where she instituted culture change projects in more than 25 long-term care facilities in the tri-state area.

The event will be held at our offices at the Mountain Marketplace on the corner of Routes 11 and 100 in Londonderry. A light lunch will be included. There is no charge for lunch or the event. Please reserve a seat ahead of time by calling our offices at (802) 824-4343.

🤝 Neighborhood Connections - Vermont will be offering two more appointment time blocks this month for Winhall residents seeking assistance with programs, services, and financial benefit resources.

Schedule an appointment to learn more about the programs, services, and financial benefit resources available to community members. This targeted effort is designed to help Winhall residents access programs they may be eligible for, but may not yet be aware of. To reserve an appt call (802) 824-4343.

Neighborhood Connections can assist with guidance, completing applications, and connecting residents with the appropriate state and federal offices for processing and follow-up.

Programs that can be explored include:
• 3SquaresVT (SNAP benefits)
• Seasonal Fuel Assistance
• Medicaid
• Medicare Savings Programs (including Vermont’s prescription “V-Pharm” plan)
• Green Mountain Power discounts, and more.

Farm-to-Family Coupons Return for 2026! Each year, the Vermont Department of Children & Families provides "Farm to Family" coupons for low-income residents. This program provides $48 in coupons for seniors, or $30 in value for non-seniors, which can be used at a wide number of farmers' markets throughout Vermont, good until October 31. Neighborhood Connections will again be processing these applications and obtaining coupons for clients.

Applications are expected to be available in late May, but we recommend that you call our offices at (802) 824-4343 and sign up, so that when the applications are open, we can immediately process your request. These coupons are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so get on our list early!

Creative Aging Class Begins Friday, May 22

Thanks to a Vermont Arts Council Grant to the South Londonderry Free Library, the season kick-off of this year's "Creative Aging" classes will begin with the first class and a catered luncheon at Neighborhood Connections at 12 noon on May 22.

The theme of this first series of classes is "Legacies: Reckoning and Resiliency." Guided by Ms. Naima K. Wade, participants will be led to examine their cultural lens, discover what constitutes a legacy, and help participants put their stories to paper. There are four sessions to this class, and each session will be different: participants may attend one, or the entire series. The follow-up classes will be held on May 29 at the Library, June 5 at the Smith Haven Apartments, and June 12 at the Library. For questions please call the library directly at (802) 824-3371.
