School's out...and plane-watching is IN! And that's what you can do all summer long at the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, where our parking lot and grounds (currently abloom with wildflower blossoms) are open seven days a week from dawn until 8 p.m. We're right next to Runway 17-35 at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, and there's no better spot to watch the big jets take off and land, such as this UPS A300-600 freighter lifting off this morning as Flight 2049 bound for Chicago/Rockford, Ill. We're located at 27 Navigator Road (off Harvey Road), Londonderry, N.H. When you visit, be sure to stop in the Aviation Museum and learn about our airfield's nearly 100 years of history, including its time as Grenier Air Base, a key part of the nation's defense during World War II and the Cold War. We're open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. Find out why we've been voted 'Best Place to Take Kids' six years running in the annual Hippo Readers Poll. And while you're here, check out our store, too—voted 'Best Local Shop to Get One-Of-A-Kind Gift' and 'Best Shop to Buy Toys for Kids.' Or just watch planes!

This year's Aviation Museum of New Hampshire Father's Day Weekend BBQ, held on Saturday, June 20 at Nashua Airport, was a huge success! Hundreds of guests enjoyed the chance to access the ramp, see vintage and unusual aircraft up close, and in many cases talk with the pilots and aircraft owners. The event, a fundraiser for the non-profit Aviation Museum, was highlighted by a delicious BBQ buffet served in Hangar 91, which also hosted fun hands-on activities and a pop-up branch of the Aviation Museum's popular store. Many thanks to Infinity Aviation and the Nashua Airport Authority for hosting this annual event, and also to the Nashua-based aircraft owners and pilots who taxied over to join in the fun, as winds aloft proved too much for many of our fly-in guests this year. We'll do it again in 2027—see you then! Below: a selection of photos from volunteers Steve Heffelfinger and Norm Beaudette.

Paper plates...and paper planes! A highlight of this year's Aviation Museum of New Hampshire Father's Day Weekend Fly-In BBQ, held on Saturday, June 20 at Nashua Airport, was a make-your-own-paper-airplane activity, complete with hoops course to test the airworthiness of just-completed aircraft. The activity, held inside the capacious interior of Hangar 91, was popular with the young and young-at-heart. Below are images of the action captured by photographers Steve Heffelfinger and Norm Beaudette. Many thanks to our hosts, Infinity Aviation and the Nashua Airport Authority, who helped make this year's Fly-In BBQ a big success—and a fun Father's Day weekend activity for hundreds of families! For more hands-on aviation fun, families can visit the Aviation Museum this summer. We're located at 27 Navigator Road, Londonderry, N.H., right next to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. See you there! And see you at next year's Nashua Fly-In BBQ—when we'll think ahead and get local soft drink distributors to sponsor the paper airplane activity, since we're using their product as ballast!

A special departure! This year's Special Olympics USA games, taking place this week in Minneapolis, Minnesota, include several Granite Staters who departed on Friday, June 19 from Signature Aviation at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. Volunteers and staff from the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire were on hand with signs and noisemakers to give our state's competitors a loud and boisterous send-off. Many thanks to all who made this possible—and to the athletes themselves, all of who are winners in their ability to inspire others. In the "extra special" department, one of the donated Textron/Cessna Citation jets suffered unexpected mechanical troubles, which enabled some of the Special Olympians and staff to visit the nearby Aviation Museum while the problem was solved. It was our honor! The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will bring together 4,000 athletes, 1,500 coaches, 10,000 volunteers and 75,000 fans from all 50 states. Good luck to all Granite State competitors and thanks to the many individuals and organizations who make this possible. Happy Father's Day 2026! Make it a special occasion by taking Dad out for some plane-watching at the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire. Our parking lot is right next to Runway 17-35 at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, so there's no better place to see all the on-field action. Bring chairs and make a day of it, just like these visitors from Plainfield, Conn. did today. Our parking lot is open every day from dawn to 8 p.m. The Aviation Museum is open today (Sunday) from 1 to 4 p.m., so there's still time to find a unique aviation-related present in our store, voted among the best local places to get one-of-a-kind gifts by HippoPress readers. See you at the Aviation Museum!

Did you know? About 11,000 women served in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, and of those about 5,000 were on active duty in Vietnam itself. The role of women during the Vietnam War was the topic of a presentation on June 3 by Leah Dearborn, associate director of the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, at the Bedford (N.H.) Public Library. Barred from direct ground combat until 2013, military women at the time served in health care, communications, intelligence, administrative positions, and more. Many, like the protagonist of popular historical fiction novel "The Women," were nurses. They also served in civilian roles, such as the flight attendants who helped carry people, medical supplies, and ordinance into war zones. The Aviation Museum offers presentations on a number of aviation-related topics through its 'Lectures on the Fly' program. We'd be delighted to travel to your library, school, or community center with one of our programs, some of which include live music! Check out our 'Lectures on the Fly' brochure online via the link in the comments below.

It's not just fictional superheroes who fly to emergencies!

Members of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) medical helicopter team will speak about their services on Thursday, July 9 at the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire. The presentation, which will include information about career paths in the field, is open to the public.

For more than three decades, DHART has been delivering pre-hospital and critical care treatment, transporting patients to medical facilities across New England via helicopter or by specialized critical care ambulance. The service operates from bases in Lebanon, N.H. and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport and responds to more than 1,500 calls each year.

Join the DHART crew for a presentation about what a career in air medical transport looks like at the Aviation Museum of N.H. on Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m., 27 Navigator Road, Londonderry. Admission is $10 per person; Aviation Museum members admitted free.

The DHART presentation is part of the museum's 'Exploring Aviation' lecture series. For more info, contact Leah Dearborn at [email protected] or at (603) 669-4877, or visit our website, linked in the comments below.

Celebrate your birthday at the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire! That's what family and friends of Ron Descheneau of Manchester did today (Sunday, June 14) when they threw him a surprise 80th birthday party! And it really was a surprise—Ron, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Vietnam era, was lured to the gathering by his wife Denise, who claimed her car had broken down at the museum. When Ron arrived to rescue her, a crowd was on hand to sing 'Happy Birthday!' to the surprised veteran and welcome his to his party. Attendees enjoyed an informal dinner followed by two different types of birthday cake. Also, many guests tried their hand on our Elite Flight Simulator, often a highlight of any museum visit and which can be included with advance notice in any rental. (We've included some video of the simulator at the party so you can get an idea of how it goes.) If you'd like to book a birthday party at the Aviation Museum, call Christine Bates at (603) 669-4820 ext. 404 or email her at [email protected]. Or check out rental information on our website, linked in the comments below.

Thank you! A total 77 donors helped raise a record total of $28,470 for the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire during this year’s NH Gives 24-hour online fundraising campaign. The funds raised will benefit the museum’s Summer Camp Scholarship Fund, which provides financial aid so young people can experience our ‘Flights of Discovery’ aviation camp regardless of a family’s ability to afford the full tuition.

Donors during the 2026 NH Gives campaign, held June 9-10, helped us max out two separate dollar-for-dollar campaigns: one for $10,000 from the Thomas W. Haas Charitable Foundation, and another $3,000 match from an anonymous donor. This year’s total of $28,470 exceeded the Aviation Museum’s prior record of $25,915, which was posted during the 2024 NH Gives campaign.

Also, out of more than 700 non-profits that took part in this year’s NH Gives, the Aviation Museum ranked 35th overall, and 7th in the Greater Manchester. That’s pretty impressive—and its all due to the generosity of donors who support our mission.

So thank you to all who contributed! Also, thanks to our friends at the Center for New Hampshire Non-Profits for organizing NH Gives each year, the N.H. Charitable Foundation for supporting it, and to N.H. Gov. Kelly Ayotte for hosting a State House rally last week to promote this year’s program. (See the picture below.) See you next year!
