SEPTEMBER MEETING GUEST SPEAKER | We have a special guest coming to London Garden Club in September, and this is one meeting you won't want to miss!

Carla Hawkins, Second Vice President of The Garden Club of Kentucky and GCKY Awards Chairman, will join us to take some of the mystery out of the Garden Club awards process.

With her theme, “Tell Your Story!”, Carla encourages clubs to look at awards as more than recognition. They are an opportunity to document the work we're doing, celebrate the people behind it and share the stories of the projects making a difference in our communities.

Carla will walk us through the awards available to Garden Club of Kentucky members, what projects qualify, how to choose the right award category, important deadlines and, perhaps most importantly, her coaching tips for putting together a strong application.

🌿 COME GROW WITH US!🌿

Have you ever thought about joining a garden club? You don’t need a perfect garden, a horticulture degree or even a particularly green thumb. You just need an interest in learning, growing and making our community a little more beautiful.

The London Garden Club meets on the second Wednesday of every month at noon and we would love to have you join us! Location varies.

We’re a relatively young club with members of all ages and all levels of gardening experience, from enthusiastic novices to Master Gardeners. Some of us know exactly what we’re doing. Some of us are still learning. And that’s part of the fun!

Our focus is on education, conservation and community beautification. Throughout the year, we learn from local experts, get our hands dirty with workshops and garden projects, and work to make a visible difference throughout London and Laurel County.

We also work closely with the Laurel County Extension Office and the Master Gardener program, giving our members wonderful opportunities to learn and grow.

Our latest project is revitalizing the Community Garden located near the extension office and providing fresh produce for those in need as well as maintaining an official monarch way station to care for pollinators.

We are proud to be a member of The Garden Club of Kentucky which is affiliated with National Garden Clubs, Inc. connecting our little club in London to gardeners and garden clubs across Kentucky and throughout the country.

Annual dues are just $25.

But perhaps the best part is the people. We learn together, work together, laugh a lot and have made some pretty wonderful friendships along the way.

Ladies Who Lunch! ❤️

A great afternoon at the August Chamber of Commerce luncheon with Jane Dyche and Lindsey Labore, and the opportunity to hear from Kentucky State Treasurer Mark Metcalf.

Treasurer Metcalf shared an interesting look at the financial health of the Commonwealth, along with something everyone should probably check: Kentucky’s unclaimed property program. You never know when forgotten funds, an old account or other property might be waiting to find its way home!

Good food, good friends and a chance to learn a little more about what’s happening across Kentucky. Not a bad way to spend a Thursday afternoon. 😊

There’s nothing quite like getting your hands dirty with the London Garden Club! 🌿😂

Today we learned the art of hypertufa and there was plenty of mixing, molding, laughing and, yes, getting delightfully messy along the way. I can’t wait to see how everyone’s creations turn out once they’ve cured and are ready for planting!

And a huge thank you to Fredrica Angel for surprising us with lunch. ❤️ It was such a thoughtful treat and made an already fun afternoon together even better.

Learning something new, getting our hands dirty and enjoying the company of good friends. That’s a pretty great Garden Club day. 🌱💕

Join the London Garden Club for our August meeting as Master Gardener Fredi Angel demonstrates how to create beautiful hypertufa planters.

Supplies provided or bring your own containers. You’ll need to allow drying time and make arrangements for pickup at a later date.

Hypertufa is a lightweight cement mixture used to make rustic containers, troughs, and garden accents that develop character and charm with age. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or simply looking for a fun new project, you'll leave inspired with ideas for your own garden.

These photos were just too good not to share.
One of our members found a tiny we**ie hummingbird after it flew into her garage.

She held it and gave it a safe place to rest until it regained its strength, then watched it fly away. The second this summer!

I'm so glad she captured these moments for all of us to enjoy. ♥️ What an amazing experience!

🌿 Sometimes the best gardens are the ones that work with nature instead of against it.

The London Garden Club was delighted to welcome Melanie Lawless of Joy of Natives Native Plant Nursery for an inspiring presentation on the importance of incorporating native plants into our landscapes. Native plants provide food and habitat for butterflies, bees, birds, and countless other pollinators while creating beautiful, resilient gardens that thrive in Kentucky.

Melanie shared practical advice on selecting native plants, explained why they require less maintenance once established, and reminded us that every yard, no matter the size, can make a positive impact on our local ecosystem.

A huge thank you to Melanie for sharing her knowledge and passion with our members. We left with fresh ideas, plenty of inspiration, and maybe even a few new plants to add to our wish lists!

Join the London Garden Club as we welcome Melanie Lawless, Co-Founder of Joy of Natives, for an inspiring and practical look at the plants that have been quietly thriving in Kentucky for thousands of years.

You'll learn why native plants create healthier landscapes, support birds, butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, and often require less maintenance once established.

What if the most beautiful thing you could do for your yard also happened to be one of the most beneficial?

Native plants do so much more than add color to the landscape. They provide food and shelter for butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and songbirds while requiring less water, fewer chemicals, and less maintenance once established.

Whether you have a sprawling garden, a few flower beds, or just a couple of containers on the porch, you'll come away with practical ideas you can start using right away.
