It is an end to Stormwater Awareness Week 2026!

One teaspoon of salt can permanently pollute 5 gals of water! Salt smart by the following steps:

🪏Shovel- clean walkways before snow turns into ice.
⛄Scatter- one 12oz. cup of salt is enough for 10 sidewalk squares!
🧹Sweep- sweep up excess salt and reuse it.

Fall is officially here! 🍂

Mulching your grass clippings and leaves put nutrients back into your lawn. Leaves also provide habitat for wildlife such as bees for the harsh winter months.🐝

Leaving the leaves can help reduce the need for fertilizer in the Spring. Reducing fertilizer use helps keep excess nutrients from polluting our waterways and help preserve wildlife and other biodiversity!

Have a friendly household pet? 🐾

Picking up dog waste doesn't just make you a good neighbor, it also helps keep water clean and healthy!

Dog waste contains harmful bacteria like E. Coli that adds high amounts of nitrogen to your yard and local waterways. 💩

Rainy days are ok, Stormwater Awareness Week can help with that! 😉

Rain barrels and rain gardens collect stormwater runoff from your downspout and put it to use providing water for your plants.

This means your property is sending less stormwater down the drain where it contributes to flooding, erosion, and pollution to local streams. Increases in stormwater flow in local streams can cause sedimentation and other erosion issues that are harmful to fish and other biodiversity.

Another Stormwater Awareness Week tip of the day! 🐛

Incorporating native plants into your landscape helps support local wildlife and pollinators by providing habitat and shelter- such as the monarch butterfly! 🦋

Native plants require less maintenance such as fertilizer, pesticides, and even additional watering.

Their long root systems help to hold soil in place and prevent erosion and runoff into local streams!

Happy Stormwater Awareness Week! 🌈

Did you know that you can help minimize flooding and drainage issues on your street by keeping your storm drains, ditches, and culverts free of debris?

Leaves and yard waste can clog storm drains and create backups and flooding. Storm drains also divert directly into waterways, so keeping debris from drains can help prevent harmful pollution to our local streams.🐟

Always remember, only rain down the drain! 🌧

Stormwater Awareness Week 2026 has begun! 💧

Stormwater Awareness Week is a regional effort that brings communities together to raise awareness about stormwater pollution, and what you can do to help keep our waterways clean! ☔

Thanks to the Agriculture Appreciation Act, signed by Governor Dewine, Ohio now celebrates Stormwater Awareness Week every year October 1-7.

Stay tuned for some helpful tips throughout the week to help raise awareness! 😄
