Giving thanks for the opportunity to preach and worship this past Sunday at Christ Is The Answer Ministries in Rockville, Maryland. Originally founded in Kenya, CITAM USA is a church plant whose mission is to “Know God and make Him known through evangelism and discipleship.”

We are grateful for the love and hospitality extended to us by Pastor Jean Bosco, his leadership team, and their congregation. We are excited to be on this financial discipleship journey with you and your congregation.

Congratulations to dear friend and brother, Rev. Dr. Nathl Moore on being elected as Moderator of the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky. GABKY serves over 500 African-American Baptist Churches across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Rev. Moore, who serves as pastor at First African Baptist Church in Lexington, KY, was the first pastor to implement Compass Financial Discipleship Church in 2018. Over the last 8 years, his church has woven Financial Discipleship Church into their discipleship program. By doing so, his church members have practically applied God’s financial principles, grown in financial discipleship and become more generous to the Kingdom.

Grateful for the faithful leadership that dear friend, Rev. Michael Rice has given the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky (GABKY) these past 4 years as Moderator. It has been a personal blessing to work with him, pray with him, and study God’s financial principles with him. GABKY serves over 500 African-American Baptist congregations across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Thank you, Ken for serving so well. Excited for this new chapter, Veronica! To God be the Glory!

After serving as the founding member, Executive Director, and President of Compass Urban Outreach since 2014, I am pleased to announce that Veronica Black will transition to the role of Executive Director, effective July 17, 2026, my 70th birthday.

I have worked with Veronica over the past year for discipleship and role transition. This has convinced me that she is the next-generation resource whom God has called to lead this ministry. Her spiritual and natural gifts are exceptional. She is committed and fully qualified to build upon the legacy of Compass Urban through Financial Discipleship Church, supporting the 30+ churches we currently serve, growing this base, and increasing impact. Details about Veronica will be shared in a separate announcement.

Veronica has established an impressive Board of Directors to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and to provide legal, financial, and strategic oversight. I will relinquish all formal roles and serve as an advisor to Compass Urban. I will continue to meet with pastors and facilitate workshops/webinars/small group studies in a very limited capacity. Although I am a financial discipleship leader for life, my core focus will be on my family, health, local church, and travel.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role for the past 13 years and the prayers and support you have provided. My prayer is that you will provide Veronica with a comparable, and even greater, level of prayer and support.

I thank Howard Dayton, my pastor Charles Jones, my board of directors, the Compass executive leadership team, donors, every executive director, and the support staff for their role in discipling me and providing guidance, support, and opportunity.

In this next season of my life, I will continue to glorify God and serve people.

Love and blessings,

Ken Battles

What a terrific week at the CityGate Network Annual Conference where we had an opportunity to build financial discipleship relationships with rescue missions and addiction recovery centers across North America. One center program manager told me that they love the structure of the Compass Making Ends Meet Video Study because the videos and lessons speak to the issues their clients deal with everyday. Glory to God 🙌🙌🙌

Kentucky high school juniors and seniors are required to take a financial literacy course.

What if they could…

✔️ Earn high school credit
✔️ Gain 3 college credit hours
✔️ Have tuition covered through dual credit scholarships
✔️ Grow closer to Jesus through Scripture along the way

Through Asbury University’s Give, Save, Spend course for high school juniors and seniors, this is all possible! Students can opt in for the course through their school counselor.
