The combination of an x-coordinate and y-coordinate (x, y) names one point on a graph. You'll need to know how to plot those! Check out the example below.
Start from the origin and move right (positive) or left (negative) according to the x-coordinate's number. The y-coordinate tells you have many steps to move up (positive) or down (negative). Got it? Brandy Opens New Doors with Her GED
Thanks to earning her GED in 2021, Brandy is now pursuing a career as a teacher's aide—something she never would have considered before, knowing it required formal education.
“Before my GED, it was so hard to find a job that paid well and made me happy. Now doors I never thought I could open are wide open.”
While caring for her three children during the pandemic, Brandy found herself at home with time to finally fulfill a promise she had made years earlier: to earn her GED.
“The hardest part was Math. If I’m being honest, I’m lucky to add and subtract,” Brandy admitted. But with determination and creative tools like YouTube tutorials, she pushed through. Her proudest moment came when she passed her GED and received her diploma.
“I feel like there is nothing that I can’t do,” she said. “It may take me doing something more than once, but if I don’t try, I’ll never achieve it.” Her advice to others? “Do it! You actually know more than you think you do.”
We're so happy for you, Brandy, and all your success! Thank you for sharing your story!

Can you find your way around the COORDINATE PLANE or grid? Take a look at the picture to see the basics. Notice that it's really a combination of two number lines. On the GED test it's often used to plot points (coordinates) and illustrate linear equations. This week we'll look at it closely and give you some practice with it.
