The officers are headed back from another great year in Indianapolis at the National FFA Convention and Expo, the 99th edition!

After taking in the first session yesterday we took a stroll downtown for brunch and followed it up by going back to Lucas Oil Stadium for the second general session. At the session chapter President, Alli Baker, and Vice-President, Scarlett Jones, represented our chapter on stage as we received recognition for earning a 3-Star National Chapter Award rating!

Following the session we headed to the northside of town for the annual FFA rodeo where we had the honor of carrying out flag duty for courtesy corps! Thank you to regional President, Brindalyn Fawbush (North Laurel FFA), as well as, some of our friends from JCHS FFA Organization (Malachi, Allison, Austin and Jadyn)!

After taking in the rodeo and, of course, some ice cream last night we went back downtown this morning for a little more time at the expo and to watch some of the Conduct of Meetings national finals. Everyone is tired, but grateful for another wonderful experience in Indy!

The officer team is ready to take in the first session of convention this morning in Lucas Oil Stadium at the 99th National FFA Convention!

This starts day 3 of our adventure to Indianapolis! On Day 1 we departed after lunch, making a stop at Keeneland for a tour of the historic horse racing track, followed by a family dinner at Cattleman’s Roadhouse.

Day 2 had us venturing downtown to check out the Expo for few hours. We had the opportunity to check out Kelsay Farms just outside of Indianapolis and then end our night at TopGolf and with some sweet treats at Graeter’s!

This morning 10 South Laurel FFA members traveled north to the EKU Farm to participate in the Fall Contest Day for the Kentucky River FFA Region. Our students and all of the members from across the region were troopers as the conditions were rainy and very wet today! We are proud of how they carried themselves and are excited to announce the results of those events!

In Land Judging, our team placed 3rd overall! Team members were Emma Dowell, Bailey Gray, Jordynn Green and Jacob Lawson.

In Seed Identification, Lillie Queen placed 4th overall!

With Junior Tractor Driving, Chance Bruner finished 3rd.

Finally, Abigail Foster represented us in the FFA Quiz Contest, placing 2nd, which will allow her to advance to the regional final at the 2027 Regional Banquet in the spring!

Attending today, also, were delegates Katelynn Malicoat and Dianna Williams, as well as, Alli Baker, the Kentucky River FFA Secretary.

Congrats to all for their hard work and preparation!

We are excited to share a new program with our community! The Farmer’s Blessing Baskets program was created by our officer team this summer at FFA Camp as a way to recognize the hard work of those actively involved in farming in Laurel county.

If you know of a farmer in our community that you would want to nominate to receive a gift on behalf of our chapter please take the time to fill out to form at the link below or by scanning the QR code. If selected we will be in contact with the person who nominates the farmer to set up a surprise delivery of their gifts. Please nominate by the end of October!

Also, if you are a business that would be willing to donate to the program please feel free to reach out. We have a goal of having a pot of $1000 to use to recognize 5 Laurel county farmers and we are halfway to that goal! Thank you again for any support of our chapter and our agriculture industry!

Today, 19 SLHS FFA members headed a few miles down the road to the J.M. Feltner 4H Camp to attend the annual Kentucky River FFA Region Leadership Conference. Members were able to mingle with around 200 other members from across our region through workshops led by members of the Kentucky FFA State Officer Team, enjoyed a lunch grilled by regional advisors and then competed in a very energetic regional Agriculture Olympics! We are looking forward to seeing the members that attended today grow in their leadership skills and become the next leaders of our chapter and region!

Be on the lookout for more information about the event, sponsorship opportunities and more for this fundraiser to help support the scholarship fund for our SLHS FFA senior officers. It has been busy the last few days for our chapter!

On this past Friday we hosted our first club meeting of the year. We welcomed Kazzi King of the London Laurel County Farmers Market to present a check from the proceeds of the Farmer's Feast last month to our chapter. We were also able to honor Mallie Johnson and present here with her banner for becoming the 2026 Kentucky FFA State Star in Agribusiness. The chapter approved our POA and after a few announcements we also played a game to get to know the officers better and had a snack!

That afternoon and into Saturday two of our leaders headed west to Hardinsburg to attend the annual Rising Sun Conference. They met with members from across the state and were challenged by the KY FFA State Officer Team to step up as agriculture advocates and leaders this year. Thank you to chapter President, Alli Baker, and chapter Secretary, Piper Blankenship, for representing us this weekend!

Finally, tonight we held our annual back to school FFA Shindig to celebrate the start to a new FFA and school year. Along with the typical food and games we added an Agriculture Olympics to this year's event. Congrats to the yellow team on winning this year's games!
