The London – Laurel County Chamber’s 501(c)(3) foundation was founded to expand the Chamber’s philanthropic endeavors in the London – Laurel County community.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, over 1,500 children in Laurel County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of a true icon, humanitarian, and champion for children, Dolly Parton.

While her extraordinary talent brought joy to millions, it was her giant heart and profound generosity that transformed generations. Through her creation of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she turned a deeply personal vision, inspired by her own father’s inability to read, into a global movement. Because of her, millions of children, including thousands right here in London and Laurel County, have grown up with a love of books delivered straight to their front doors, completely free of charge. 📚❤️

Serving as a local partner for the Imagination Library has been one of our greatest privileges. Dolly taught us that when you put a book into the hands of a child, you give them the key to unlimited dreams.

Dolly once said, "If you can read, you can cook, you can paint, you can measure, you can build... you can dream."
