Did you know reading during the summer can help children hold onto important learning skills between school years?

Just 15 minutes of reading a day helps strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence while keeping young minds active and engaged.

Small reading routines today can make a big difference when school starts again.

June is Summer Reading Month, and there’s no better time to make reading part of your family’s summer fun.

Whether it’s bedtime stories, poolside books, or reading under the stars, even a few minutes a day helps children build confidence and keep learning all summer long.

This season, let stories be part of the adventure.

Every child has a story waiting to be told.

It grows with every book they hear, every question they ask, and every moment spent reading together.

This month, we’ve celebrated the power of stories to connect families, spark imagination, and shape how children see the world.

Let’s keep those stories going.

Stories are not just found in books. They are all around us.

In the flowers blooming outside.
In a trip to the grocery store.
In a walk around the neighborhood.

Talking about what you see, hear, and experience helps children build language, curiosity, and understanding of the world.

This week, turn an everyday moment into a story. Describe what you notice, ask questions, and let your child add their own ideas.

The simplest moments often become the most meaningful stories.

One of Dolly Parton’s most meaningful stories began with her mother.

Using scraps of fabric, she stitched together a coat to keep Dolly warm. As she sewed, she told her the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors, reminding her that love and imagination are more valuable than anything money can buy.

That story stayed with Dolly. And today, it continues to inspire children and families everywhere.

This Share a Story Month, take time to pass down a story that matters to you. You never know which one will stay with a child forever.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the moms, grandmothers, and caregivers who fill childhood with love, comfort, and stories.

The ones who read “just one more book” at bedtime.
Who turn pages with little hands beside them.
Who make stories feel safe, warm, and full of possibility.

These moments may feel small, but they shape how children learn, grow, and see the world.

To all the women who nurture a love of reading and a love of learning, thank you.

Happy Mother’s Day!

May is National Share a Story Month, a time to celebrate the stories that connect us, inspire us, and stay with us for a lifetime.

Stories do not always have to come from a book. They can be memories, family traditions, or moments passed down from one generation to the next.

This month, take time to share a story with a child in your life. The stories we tell today become the memories they carry tomorrow.

We are overwhelmed and deeply moved by the outpouring of support in memory of Judge Robert W. Dyche III.

Over the past few weeks, the London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce Foundation has received numerous contributions via mail and PayPal from friends, colleagues, neighbors, and community members looking to honor the Judge’s incredible legacy.

Because of your generosity, these memorial gifts will make a profound impact on our partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. These funds will go directly toward putting high-quality books into the hands of Laurel County children, fostering the love of reading that Judge Dyche so deeply cherished.

For those who still wish to contribute, the Foundation continues to accept memorial donations in his honor. These gifts ensure that his commitment to our community’s youth continues to grow.

To everyone who has already donated, thank you for turning a moment of loss into a lasting gift for our community’s future. Judge Dyche spent his life serving Laurel County, and through your kindness, his influence will continue to be felt by generations of young readers.
