We are entering the last days of 2025, and ahead of the arrival of 2026 we're taking a look back at a few of our most read stories of the year.
In this spotlight, we take a look back at a story from October of this year about the appearance of La Purisima Mission in 'One Battle After Another', which is on the shortlist of potential Best Picture winners at the 2026 Oscar Awards.
"Locals will recognize familiar adobe walls, gardens and trails on the big screen as La Purisima Mission makes its debut in the newly released comedy-drama One Battle After Another, now playing in theaters."
The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, and Benicio del Toro, used the historic Lompoc landmark as a backdrop during production, celebrating the Santa Barbara County city in a second Hollywood feature since its first 2003 debut in "Seabiscuit."

We hope you can join us this Friday, November 28th for the annual Walk Off the Turkey Hike at La Purisima Mission SHP!

🗺️Where: Meets outside the visitor center
🕦Time: 10:00 am to 11:30 am Friday, November 28th
😎What to expect: Moderate family friendly hike with minor elevation gain
🥾Length of hike: About an hour and a half in length (can go shorter or longer depending upon groups pace and interest). Hike participants can drop in and out at any time during the hike
🥾Hike details: A leisurely staff-led hike for an opportunity to learn about the history, flora and fauna of the parks unique Burton Mesa ecosystem
👨‍👧‍👦Ages: Adults and children old enough to hike a mile, children must be accompanied by a adult
🎒Preparation: Bring water, and dress appropriately for conditions

Tickets are on sale for La Purisma Mission’s Winter Candlelight Concert featuring the CHS Madrigal Singers. An hour long concert of solos, duets and group songs by the Madrigals. All this set against the backdrop of a candlelight Mission. Reception afterward. Tickets can only be purchased through the Mission’s website.

😎The next Junior Ranger Program at La Purisima Mission State Historic Park will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 28th, at 10:00 AM!

🦊Tomorrow’s topic is “Mammals and Animals of the Mission.” Junior Rangers will explore the various wildlife that call La Purisima Mission SHP home.

🕦These free programs are designed for children 7 to 12 years old and typically last about 45 minutes to an hour.

📋Please check in at the visitor center to participate.

👨‍👧‍👦An adult must be present for the entire duration of the program. We can’t wait to see you there!

🌎🌳Join us this Saturday, April 19th, for a day of family-friendly activities in celebration of Earth Week!

🥾Hike with a Ranger
🕦9 AM to 10 AM
📍Start off your day with a relaxing family hike starting at the visitor center! This leisurely nature hike will take you along the historic grounds and up the hill to the upper loop before heading back. The hike lasts about an hour and is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature while learning about the park and its beautiful trail system.

🏞️Nature Journaling and Leave No Trace Display
⏱️10 AM to 2 PM
📍Stop by the first entrance bridge to the historic mission grounds for some nature journaling! We will provide nature journals and drawing supplies, while sharing information about Leave No Trace principles and wildlife etiquette—helping everyone learn how to keep our parks clean and beautiful.

👤Historical Mission Tours
🕦11 AM to 12:30 PM and 1 PM to 2:30 PM
📍Discover the history of La Purisima Mission with guided tours at 11 AM and 1 PM. These tours last an hour and a half and are led by knowledgeable state park staff and volunteers. The tour meets inside the visitor center.
