On Friday, we met Dan Hebreard, President of DuPage Forest Preserve District.

The Forest Preserve District is the leader in everything green in DuPage. Some people may assume this is only the trees, prairies, wetlands, and incredible habitats found throughout the 26,000 acres. However, they have also been a leader in alternative fuels, energy and have even taken advantage of opportunities at the landfill sites on preserve property.

Do you remember Prairie Days?

2009 - 2015 Members joined with the Historical Society and Lombard Park District to host Prairie Days for the entire community. During the third full week in September (Illinois Prairie Week), music, food, activities and demonstrations filled the afternoon with celebration.

Scientifically known as Zinnia elegans (meaning elegant) the zinnia traces its origins to Mexico and the Americas. Unlike most flowers, their genus name is not derived from Latin, but instead named after the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn.

Last weekend concluded our garden walks for the summer. Cindy not only let us come and see what's growing in her gardens, but she and her ukulele group played for us too! What a special treat!!
