Light Up Our Youth Foundation

Light Up Our Youth (LUOY) Foundation was founded by CHARLES H. After deciding to go back home to Haiti to work as an engineer. He was eager to use his skills and abilities to help his homeland in the process of rebuilding after 2010 earthquake. During his time working as an engineer in Haiti, he was touched by peoples’ stories, especially his young brothers and sisters who were starving to death.

Their stories were not different from his and they reminded him of where he came from. As a young boy growing up without any parents in a third world country like Haiti, he knows from first-hand experience the challenges of starvation, misery, poverty, and violence. He remember times when he went to bed hungry and still had to go to school the next morning. Unlike in the United States where those in need can get help from the local, state and/or federal government, Haitians don’t have the same availability of services. It was heartbreaking for him to see his people living in such condition and to witness the loss of many lives due to lack of resources, starvation, and many diseases. Therefore, he quickly realized the need was great and would require more than just him to help, so he founded Light Up Our Youth (LUOY) Foundation. The mission of LUOY Foundation is to end the cycle of youth illiteracy throughout Haiti.
