Dear Friends of Lombard:
The Lombard Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (LCPAAA) is a non-profit organization comprised of graduates of the Lombard Police Department's (LPD) Citizens Police Academy program. The LCPAAA assists and participates in a wide variety of police and community activities throughout the year, and provides assistance to the LPD when requested. More information about our organization can be found at http://lombardcpaaa.org.
Our biggest and most important event of the year is our annual Shop-With-A-Cop (SWAC) program. The goal of SWAC is to bring some holiday cheer to local children and their families who otherwise might not have much of a Christmas. Our goal is to help at least 10 families. This year we will be hosting our 28th Shop-With-A-Cop, and we hope to make this an especially successful event.
SWAC involves the pairing up of children nominated by Lombard schools, with LPD Officers and alumni for a day of shopping and fun activities. The day begins with a parade of squad cars, complete with lights and sirens, heading off to Dick's Sporting Goods and JC Penney, where the children will shop for themselves and their families. LCPAAA members will have previously bought and wrapped gifts for each child. Afterwards they return to Village Hall to wrap their purchases, have lunch and visit with Santa Claus before returning home with a squad car full of packages and holiday cheer.
A lot of time, planning, and generous support from the community goes into making this event possible. As we head into our 28th Shop-With-A-Cop, we hope that we can count on your support as a local business, or private individual to assist us in spreading much needed holiday joy this year. Donations of any kind are gladly accepted whether monetary or tangible goods. If donating gift cards or other items, please arrange to provide enough for 10 families.
For more information about Shop-With-A-Cop, or if you would like to donate, please contact: Jim Krupka at 847-867-1542 or [email protected]. Arrangements can be made to pick up donations or they can be sent to: LCPAAA, Attn: Sgt. Abigail Lauer, 235 E. Wilson Ave., Lombard, IL 60148. This year's Shop-With-A-Cop is scheduled for Saturday, December 5. We ask that all donations be made by December 4, if possible. Donors will receive a Thank You letter, LPAAA sponsor sticker for display, recognition in the Lombardian and on our page.
