At 18, society says you’re an adult.
But the truth is, nobody is truly ready at 18.

For young adults aging out of foster care, the transition into adulthood often comes without the support system many of us take for granted. No safety net. No one to call when life gets hard. No consistent family to guide them through the next chapter.

That’s why mentoring families matter.

In this powerful video, our Relationship Manager Paige Cartier shares why connection, community, and consistent support can change the trajectory of a young person’s life. Every young adult deserves someone who will walk beside them, believe in them, and remind them they do not have to do life alone.

Every year, more than 21,000 young people age out of foster care without permanent family support. Without stable relationships, many face significant barriers as they transition into adulthood.

Former NFL player and board member Ty Montgomery is using his platform to make a difference.

On May 15, 2026, Ty is bringing his network, influence, and passion together to host the First Annual Pro Athlete and Celebrity Charity Golf Tournament at the beautiful Stanford Golf Course in support of Don’t Go Alone (DGA).

This special event will bring together professional athletes, celebrities, community leaders, and supporters for a memorable day of golf while raising awareness and resources for young adults aging out of foster care.

Ty’s connection to this mission is deeply personal. His mother opened their home to more than 17 foster siblings, giving him firsthand insight into the power of support, stability, and community.

In 2023, ten of our Don’t Go Alone youth experienced a transformative trip to Israel — fully funded by our board member and longtime champion, Ty Montgomery.

Ty has walked alongside our program from day one, using his platform and resources to open doors these young people never imagined. This trip was one powerful example of his deep commitment to showing our youth what’s possible when someone believes in them.

As John Hope Bryant says, ‘Exposure is not about privilege. It is about access. When people are given access to new environments, new thinking, and new possibilities, they begin to imagine a future they could not see before.’
