It's finally here! 6 months of prep work has gone into being ready and it is a reminder that for all our efforts, we still don't control the weather.

The ride is RAIN OR SHINE! This editor has ridden in both and the rainy rides have been smaller but somehow more rewarding. It is Memorial Day, the day we gather to remember those who lost their lives in a uniform of our country and the families that loved and lost them... what's a little rain compared to that? If you are comfortable in the rain, you won't regret getting wet today.

With all that said, we are signing off for the day... if you have burning questions, they will have to wait until we get everyone ridden, fed, and partied up.

Thanks for playing along and most of all, thanks for reflecting with us on this most solemn and sacred of days.

Tomorrow is the big day, it's finally here! Before the entire social media staff gets dragged, kicking and screaming out into the parking lot to help set cones, a few final reminders:

1. We hope you have enjoyed our countdown. Thanks to everyone who shared, liked, and played along.
2. Bring cash tomorrow, it will make your life better, we promise.
3. Come with a tank full of gas, we have been clear about this.
4. If you plan to ride with your group, arrive as a group. We expect a big crowd tomorrow and do not have room for you to stage in our lot.
5. Have your gate money easily accessible. A smooth gate is a happy gate.
6. Remember to patronize or otherwise thank our amazing sponsors. The money we raise every year helps veterans of all ages.
7. Ride safe and don't be a pinhead. The person in front of or behind you could be on their first group ride, model good behavior.
8. Sign your waiver then get your T-Shirt early to be sure to get your size. Grab a pin or patch while you are at it. Come back in the afternoon, it will be a good time and we have lots of great raffle prizes this year.
9. Respect the day, the crosses, the flags and be moved by the patriotic Americans along the route.
10. Thanks for helping keep this amazing ride alive all these years and for helping us mark this important day together!

It's down to brass tacks now. It's only 5 days left until Ride for America 2025. Our amazing team had their last meeting before the ride last night so after 6 months of in-depth planning, we are ready to mostly wing it.

5 Important Reminders:

1- Ride is RAIN OR SHINE!!!!

2- Gate is $10/bike $5/passenger - have it accessible and ready to speed everyone through the gate!

3- Arrive together to ride together!

4- Bring CASH!!!

5- Plan on coming back for the afternoon food/fun!

6 Days!

Let's talk arrival... Gates open at 7AM

Once you pay your money, you will be directed into a lane for parking. It is important that you follow the instructions of our volunteer staff. Please do not try to change lanes to be near a buddy because this can create an unsafe mess for everyone. If you want to ride together, arrive together.

Once you are parked, come up front and sign your waiver then step inside for coffee, a biscuit (while supplies last), and check out the raffle prizes.

Listen to the announcements, they will provide you with key information.

Please keep clear of the gate area while others are arriving, there will be a steady increase in traffic all morning.

Grab some waters because it can get hot even that early.

6 Days, then we ride!

"ONE" and only ONE WEEK UNTIL RFA!!!! Here are some annual reminders to make your day more enjoyable and our jobs easier... win-win:
1. Bring cash for the gate, have it in a pocket or somewhere you can get it without dismounting and tying things up. $10 for the rider and an extra $5 if you have a passenger.

2. Bring cash for lots of other stuff. The post has an ATM, but the lines can get long and frustrating. Sufficient cash will let you get raffle tickets, T-Shirts, and all kinds of stuff quickly and easily.

3. If you are coming to ride in a group (2 or more), come through the gate as that group. It is a safety consideration for us to have folks trying to get together once they are in the lot. Also, it is impossible once you are in line. We expect a LOT of bikes and need to get them all parked safely. You CANNOT hold a spot for someone to come fill later, no matter what.

4. Make sure you fill up with gas before you come in. It is a 74 mile round trip and not everyone has a big tank. There are always one or two folks who remember after they get parked in line, way in the back. We judge, we judge harshly, we will talk about you all year until the next ride.

5. Have fun, be safe! There will be riders of EVERY skill level on the ride. Keep your helmet straps tight and your head on a swivel.

6. Be patient with our volunteers, they are exactly that. Other than some bar staff, no one you deal with is paid to be there, we do it because we love the our country, we love this ride, and because the ride helps us raise much needed money for our scholarships and other work we do with and for veterans and our community. Including housing and feeding homeless veterans.

7. Please be mindful that there is also a solemn Memorial Day Ceremony before KSU, please participate, please do so reverently. It is a day to celebrate freedom, but first and foremost it is a day to remember the costs of that freedom.

There will be more to go over this week, but this will get us started.

With only 8 days left until Ride For American 2025 it is super tempting to start looking at the long term weather forecasts... don't. It is way too soon to know how the day of the ride will shake out.

What you can do is be ready for anything and make sure you and your bike is ready for anything. Check your sunscreen AND your rain gear, check your tires and clean those bugs off your windscreen, make sure you have sunglasses, and clear eye protection, just in case.

Even at 27 years, Ride for America is simply an amazing event, managing to feel patriotic, joyful, and appropriately solemn all at once. It is also still one of the cheapest rides around and we can do that because of all our amazing sponsors and supporters. Peruse the list below and please thank and support these good folks whenever you have a chance, they have given money, goods, and time to make your experience on Memorial Day better and to ensure we can support numerous veteran-related causes all the year round!
