WHAT DOES AVA DO? | MENTAL WELL-BEING

Treatment doesn’t end with the procedure.

For some veterans struggling with PTSD and trauma symptoms, Stellate Ganglion Block can help reduce the body’s overactive fight or flight response. But calming the nervous system is only one part of healing.

That’s why Acadiana Veteran Alliance created the Heal Center.

Through the Heal Center, veterans can receive up to 12 telehealth counseling sessions at no cost to them, removing two of the biggest barriers to behavioral health care: access and cost.

Our approach is intentionally integrated. SGB is designed to address the physiological response associated with trauma. Counseling gives veterans an opportunity to work through the experiences, behaviors and challenges that remain.

Think of it this way: SGB may help turn down the volume of the alarm. Counseling helps the veteran work on what the alarm has been interrupting.

And because counseling is available through telehealth, a veteran doesn’t have to live in Acadiana to participate. The goal is to make high quality behavioral health support more accessible to veterans wherever they are in Louisiana.

We don’t believe one procedure, one appointment or one intervention is the entire answer. We believe in building a continuum of care around the veteran.

Physical well being + Mental well being. That’s the AVA model.
