Open House at Whispering Canyons Foundation Open House at Whispering Canyons Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit at-risk teen girls' horsemanship

Whispering Canyons Foundation provides at-risk adolescent girls with a horse to care for and a structured riding program after school and during the summer. Each girl takes responsibility for feeding and watering her horse, cleaning stalls, and riding daily. Volunteer trainers teach the girls equine science, horsemanship, and riding skills. As members of our Golden Hoofbeats 4-H Club, they partici

pate in horse shows and summer horse camps where they develop important skills that lead to self-confidence. Working in partnership with her horse, a girl learns that creating a mutually respectful relationship requires communicating cues to him clearly, setting boundaries, exercising self-control and consistency, and establishing trust. Once she develops a respectful partnership with her horse, she is better able to apply her experience to human interactions and to recognize, build, and maintain healthy relationships and attitudes.
