In 2010, Iowans overwhelmingly voted to amend the state constitution and create the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund as a permanent, protected source of funding to improve water quality, soil health, parks, trails, and wildlife habitat.

But 15 years later, the Trust still sits empty because the legislature hasn’t passed the 3/8 of one percent sales tax needed to fund it.

Fund the Trust is a grassroots effort working to educate Iowans and advocate for lawmakers to finally fund the Trust so we can make real progress toward clean water, outdoor recreation, and thriving communities.

Every Iowan deserves to trust their tap water, enjoy safe beaches, and explore beautiful parks and trails right here at home. Let’s make it happen.

Tell your lawmakers it’s time to and follow us to learn more.

The holidays are a time to gather with loved ones, celebrate the season’s many gifts, and reflect on the beauty of the world around us. From fresh snow across the prairie to the quiet moments spent outdoors, this time of year reminds us why we work to protect the places and traditions that mean so much.

At Harrison County Pheasants Forever, we are grateful for you, our members, donors, and volunteers, whose generosity and passion make our mission possible. Because of your support, wildlife habitat continues to grow, access expands, and our shared outdoor heritage endures.

As we celebrate the season and look ahead to a new year of conservation and community, may your days be filled with peace, joy, and time in the uplands.

From all of us at Harrison County Pheasants Forever, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Iowa has long been known as one of the best places in the United States to hunt pheasants. Our rich tradition began on October 20, 1925, and to mark this occasion, the Iowa DNR is celebrating all aspects of pheasant hunting in the Hawkeye State.

Please be safe and mindful when out this weekend.

While the grasses may be green, crops are definitely drying out. The combination of strong southerly winds, warm temperatures, and dry fields could lead to very high to extreme fire danger on Saturday. Please exercise extreme caution as any fires that do develop could spread quickly and become difficult to control.

Iowa farmers interested in signing up for the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) have until Oct. 10 to submit initial paperwork. These programs provide financial and technical assistance for producers implementing conservation practices while maintaining agricultural production.

“CSP and EQIP help farmers implement practices they may not otherwise consider. These programs help alleviate financial risk so producers can take action to improve soil health and water quality on their operations.” –Cynthia Farmer, policy manager with the Center for Rural Affairs.
