The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States has announced the details of its 2026-2027 Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen audio essay competitions!

This year’s shared theme is “What a Veteran Taught Me About America”

Voice of Democracy contest is for students in grades 9-12. With a top prize from the National VFW to the first-place winner receiving a $35,000 scholarship.

Patriot’s Pen contest is for students in grades 6-8. With a top prize from the National VFW to the first-place winner receiving a $5,000 scholarship

Both contests receive awards and prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners at each of level. (Post, District, State and National)

Today we proudly celebrate 250 years of freedom, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of the United States of America.

As we gather with family and friends this Fourth of July, we honor the brave generations of service members who have defended our freedoms ever since.

On behalf of everyone at VFW Post 5082, we wish our community a safe, happy, and patriotic Independence Day as we celebrate America's Semiquincentennial and reflect on the values that unite us as a nation.

May we never forget the sacrifices made for liberty and may we continue to uphold the ideals that make our country strong.
