This is kidney disease. High blood pressure is one of the many side effects of kidney disease. Although I take many medications to manage my symptoms, maintaining a healthy blood pressure seems to be impossible for me. Due to my ongoing high blood pressure, the wall of my heart is beginning to thicken. This can lead to a series of critical health complications and I hope it does not interfere with my ability to get a transplant. Next week I have two appointments with a GI specialist to make sure there is no internal bleeding and a cardiologist to look at my heart. I’m scared and I feel like I’m never going to get a kidney. The stress does not help manage the blood pressure either, so the worry seems unending. If you are able to donate to help cover costs for my specialists appointments I would greatly appreciate it. I have not gone outside much since shelter-in-place was implemented in California, but yesterday I got to feed horses 🐴! It was very beautiful, serene, and lovely. We drove to a country road and it was so peaceful. How are you doing during quarantine?

Hi, everyone! I hope you’re staying safe and healthy during the global pandemic. Now, more than ever, we need to be thoughtful of our actions. People with existing illness - people like ME - are at higher risk of contracting the virus due to a weakened immune system. At first glance, I might look like a healthy young man. When I go into public, people do not treat me as a kidney patient or someone that is at high risk. It is easy to overlook vulnerable populations because a lot of us have invisible illnesses. A good rule of thumb: assume everyone you come in contact with is at high risk of contracting COVID-19. 🧼 PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS and practice CDC guidelines. Being a young adult with kidney disease is difficult, but the global pandemic of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) turned my difficult world into an unsafe, threatening world. Before the outbreak, I needed to be highly aware of my environment and surroundings because I am more susceptible to illness. Now, going into public could be a death sentence. ⁣
⁣
I am okay with staying inside. After all, I spend 12.5 hours of my day connected to my dialysis machine. But now my loved ones are forced to stay inside, too. They could contract the virus without presenting any symptoms and transmit it to me unknowingly. It’s terrifying, and it makes simple tasks like getting groceries very difficult.⁣

I am not the only victim. Individuals over the age of 65 and persons of vulnerable populations (compromised immune systems, diabetes, kidney disease) face the same risk. It is added stress to the already stressful situation. And please remember: NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISIBLE. ⁣
